About Me

Hi, my name is Phoebe. I have moved to the Netherlands from the US. I am concentrating on learning Dutch, and enjoying the beautiful weather, gardens, and architecture.

I love old books, even ones that are falling apart because I repurpose the pages into collage or art books/ smash books.

I especially love computer books from the sixties, seventies, and eighties.

I love kids books and/or textbooks with illustrations.

I collect postage stamps. In Dutch they are called postzegels. I love the artwork, the history, the cultures, the textures and the colors.

Favorite Music

I love just about anything with a beat! My new favorite is BTS .

I love hearing music from all over the world, in all different styles.

I love Andrew Bird , Imogen Heap, Dido, Everything But the Girl, Black Eyed Peas, Regina Spektor, Dave Brubeck, Ddendyl, Sophia Urista, They Might Be Giants, and many many more.

Favorite Books

The Neverending Story by Michael Ende was my first "favorite" book. It is still one of my favorites. It's very complex, much more so than the movie, and it was the first book I ever got angry at; I threw it across the room when I was 12. The main character started to make bad choices, hurting his friends and falling into the hands of the antagonist... That book takes you up, down, and all over the place. It's a good fantasy book, and also a good soul-searching book.

I love anything by Patricia Mclaughlan , E.L. Konigsburg , Isaac Asimov , Douglas Adams , Ursula K. LeGuin , Patricia A. McKillip , Orson Scott Card , Madeleine L'Engle , Alice Walker , Greg Bear , Donna Jo Napoli , Terry Pratchett , and Nancy Farmer .

I also loved The Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston and any book that envelops you in a culture not your own. This would be different for everyone, but that's what's great about sharing and reading: you get to experience a little bit about someone else's life.

I just finished reading Ancillary Justice , by Ann Leckie, and subsequently read every book she’s ever written because it was such an amazing sci-fi book.

I enjoy sci-fi, fantasy, interesting biographies, juvenile fiction, and juvenile fiction from other countries.

I love any books about fermenting food, like sauerkraut, kimchi, etc. I really enjoyed Real Food Fermentation , by Alex Lewin, and Wild Fermentation by Sandor Katz.

Favorite Crafts

I'm into digital fabric printing: Spoonflower FeeBeeDee . I love pattern and color, which also leads to a love of photography, and stained glass. I've just begun to explore digitally generated art, which creates itself after you give it a few guidelines.

Processing.org

Favorite Things

I have lots of favorite things; treasures from garage sales and thrift shops, art, music, and books that make you think, fabric, zines . I love zines .

LIght aqua is my favorite color. Light aqua, lime green, greeny teal, blue spruce, olive, and all that together works.

I love zines and writing, so send me a bit of something you wrote, either on a card, in a zine booklet, decorated with art and stickers, etc. Thoughts are good.

Comment: I heard so many times about Asimov, but personally I never found the description of the books that interesting! Maybe I shouldn't care about it and I should just start reading one of his books! Thanks a lot for your review :)
Response: Wonderful! Yes, you should just dive in; a library book or one of those free kindle borrows would work fine. 💕

Comment: Thanks for sharing your list of books. Seems like you enjoy that author :) Have you read all of them? Anyway, you did a good job during November. Thanks once again.
Response: Yeah, I do love Isaac Asimov. I think I’ve read all of his sci-di books, but he wrote a lot of non fiction, science books, as well, and I haven’t read those. :)

Comment: I Loved the cover and contents of this little book! I think you did a great job. What a great idea for a swap! I love challenges, so this was perfect for me. I've joined this swap, January 2022 Journal Swap. I'm so excited! I'm also going to have to search out the books. We're always on the lookout for good stories to encourage reading in our grandchildren. Don't worry, she'll find it, or if she doesn't she'll remember you reading <3 Thanks 100 percent!

Comment: So, if you are going to pay all that postage, make it worth your while. LOL I love all the cards, the cute little ones, baseball cards and of course the cards for my frankendeck. Very generous. I do knit, but prefer crocheting. The last Tunisian I ever did was an afghan. Thanks so much. *I didn't realize the backs of the cards were all your artwork. I looked at your flickr pics and found them. WOW!

Comment: Ohmigoodness - what a beautiful treasure you sent! I've always wanted to make my own books but never really figured it all out. I just love all the pages and how you've tucked little goodies in it. And I just adore the cover! Reminds me of the books I used to read to my children when they were little! Thanks so much - I find something new every time I pick the book up!
Response: Wonderful! Take a look at Sealemon’s coptic stitch tutorial on youtube. I have to look it up every time I make a book, but I think she explains it pretty well. She’s got a lot of other book making tutorials, too!
