Me...

My name is Patricia and I live in a small, conservative town in Nevada that I don't really fit into. I admit I haven't used Swap-bot in forever, but am looking forward to getting into it again. I love getting and sending mail the good old fashioned way...

As for me, I am 35 and live with my two cats. I am very close with my family - as in my parents and my sister. I am not married and hate children! Horrible, but true...

I am unable to work, due to the fact that I have a chronic mental illness, schizoaffective disorder. Lately, I have been feeling like I need to take some steps to make my life a little fuller, hence stuff like starting Swap-bot again.

Stuff...

It seems the thing to do on profiles is write about stuff you would like to get in swaps. I am actually pretty down with getting all sorts of stuff because I am interested in other people and what they find cool or interesting. Here are a few ideas, though...

Lip products (stains, gloss, etc)

Hair pins (I have short hair, so I mean like, bobby pins and such)

Jewelry (Sans earrings - I am allergic to practically all of them)

Hand lotion

Art of any kind (ATCs, writing you would like to share with me, etc - getting artsy things from people really rocks my socks)

Unique cards and postcards

Cool tape

Rubber stamps

Pens

Stickers

Notebooks

Stationary

Anything having to do with cats or goats! Or just animals in general, really!

Vintage photography

Picture Books/Old Magazines - whatever that can be used for collages

I guess something I can say about my other tastes is that I'm kinda dark. I mean, I have interests ranging from anomalies to serial killers to Victorian post mortem photography. If that sounds morbid... I like such things for what I consider "non-morbid" reasons. I just have some unusual interests and outlooks, I guess.

With that said, it's probably no surprise that I have an odd, dark sense of humor, too. Really, it is pretty much impossible to offend me, aside from obvious nastiness like racism and sexism, so feel free to send me weird stuff. Or not weird stuff. Surprise me.

The only request I have is to not be sent religious items. I am a hardcore atheist. Also, on a somewhat related note, I am very liberal. Other than that, I am pretty open.

Movies...

My all time favorite movie is Cries and Whispers. Some of my other favorites are Raging Bull, Freaks, Fargo, Happiness, Welcome to the Dollhouse, Palindromes, About Schmidt, No Country for Old Men, Bronson, Silence of the Lambs, Eye of God, The Comedy, Funny Games, My Own Private Idaho, Rushmore, Ordinary People, Palindromes, Small Apartments, Goodfellas, Bully, The Beaver, Mary and Max, Kalifornia, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Through a Glass Darkly, Pulp Fiction, Taxi Driver, etc, etc... The list goes on.

I'm really into movies - they have the ability to rock my world more than any other art form - and I have seen TONS of them, but admit I am a self proclaimed "movie snob." I mean, I do tend to like weird and/or heavy movies, but I sometimes like some stupid stuff, like Nacho Libre and Walk Hard, so I am not a total movie snob. :)

As for actors, my favorite is Philip Seymour Hoffman. I also love Tom Hardy. Early DeNiro. Meryl Streep. Nicole Kidman. Naomi Watts. And many more...

Also, laugh if you want, I LOVE Nicolas Cage. My theory on him is that he is often terrible, but ALWAYS interesting.

As for directors, my favorite is Todd Solondz, followed byYorgos Lanthimos, who is a Greek filmmaker. I am also partial to Ingmar Bergman, among others.

Music...

Music is really important to me, too. I listen to a lot of different music, ranging from old blues from the 1930s to stuff like Alice in Chains to the super weird, like Wesley Willis.

A few of the musicians I am really into are Nicole Dollanganger, Babes In Toyland, L7, Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, Johnny Cash, Daniel Johnston, Anything Kathleen Hannah, Anything Katie Jane Garside, Soundgarden. 12 Rounds, Soul Coughing, PJ Harvey, Benjamin Clementine, CoCoRosie, Amanda Palmer, Bjork, The Muffs, Soap&Skin - again, on and on...

I listen to a really wide variety of things... And I like getting suggestions!

Books...

I often read little known, obscure authors - my favorite being Sam Pink. I just like the DIY ethic and the way a lot of it is written, in a sort of raw and informal way. This has led to me being a bit involved in zines, too. I tend to read weird books... But, I admit I really hate fantasy and sci-fi. Like, a lot. I always have plans to read more than actually comes to fruition, unfortunately...

TV...

I am not too much of a TV fan. But, there is stuff I like. I was disappointed Hannibal was canceled and I like some older stuff, such as The Shield and Carnivale. I also really loved Rectify and related to the main character more than I have to very few others.

Sooooo, however... I am also a sucker for The Golden Girls! I love it! I actually consider it a feminist anthem! Seriously! As a juxtaposition, I love true crime shows. I actually listen to true crime stuff to go to sleep!

Artists...

My favorite artist is Al Columbia. I also like Ralph Steadman, Edvard Munch, Vincent Van Gogh, Frita Kahlo, Francis Bacon (a different dude than the philosopher), etc...

And I am a big fan of David Firth cartoons, though not all of them. I gravitate more towards his stuff like Salad Fingers and his newer, more complicated works.

I sometimes do my own art, which I tend to ebb and flow with, in the sense of how often I do it. If I had to be all pretentious and label my art, it would probably classify as surrealism.

Etc, whatever...

I love snail mail and, again, I am glad to be joining swap-bot again. I know I haven't swapped in forever, but am 100% reliable. And feel free to contact me if you have any questions for me about a swap or any other such subjects. I do not bite.

Comment: So I finally got around to listening to your CDs (I tend to listen to mixtapes at work, and Linux makes things difficult, so bleah) but I have discovered that your mixtapes are the best ones I've recieved yet! I pretty much want to hunt down every band on the Girls CD that I haven't already heard! Thank you so much!!! I have also decided that I'm going to at least try sticking photos and stuff the CD cases I send out. I love writing letters, but it is about time I put some visual care into them. I can't draw but photos are such a great idea! Now I just need to get a printer :P

Comment: The songs you chose are so emotional, and it fits the swap theme perfectly. Thank you :)
Response: since i have joined a lot of music swaps lately, it has come to my attention that most people would consider the music i listen to "depressing." but, i like the term "emotional" much better. ;) thanks and best wishes to you!

Comment: I actually got the package on v-day so perfect timing. I love the stickers. I finally got the cd to work. I popped it right in when i opened the package and it kept skipping and dieing. Turned it over it looked scratched to hell and back. Turns out it was just glue or something. I got some cd cleaner and cleaned it up and now it works great. Oddly enough you used a bunch of the same songs I did.
Response: i am so sorry it skipped! i have been doing a lot of "crafty" things lately and apparently made a mess... again, i am really sorry about that. but, i am glad you got the cd to work and i hope you are enjoying it!

It's no big deal. I understand being under the weather. I've been having the most health issues this year that I have ever had. Glad you enjoyed the mix!
