About Me

Hi there,

I am a huge post card fan and needlework! I am pretty open minded and like just about anything. But I especially enjoy irony, fabric crafts, all things red, green and purple, and out-dated politically-incorrect post cards! I have a sense of humor about just about everything and do not offend easily (Though for me, and for the good of human kind, please no suicide jokes.)

Favorite Music

I love alternative country: Corb Lund, Andrew Neville and the Poor Choices, Rae Spoon, The Sadies, Dwight Yoakam (where does he get those jackets!!!) ...............

Plus I have been on a huge Mexican Banda kick lately! (Cuisillos, Banda MS, Espinosa Paz, Banda Limon, Sergio Vega, Alicia Villareal y mucho mas!)

Rock is always on my playlist: The White Stripes, The Foo Fighters, The Queens of the Stone Age, The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather, Tom Petty, The Rolling Stones...............And you can NEVER go wrong with the blues!..............................

Favorite Books

I am making a lot more time for reading now, and really starting to enjoy it for the first time. I like to read stuff by Kurt Vonnegut Jr - James Van Praag - Naomi Kline - Amy Goodman -

Earlier in the year I read Skinny by Ibi Kaslik (If you liked the themes in the Black Swan movie, you would like this book.) And a GREAT collection of short stories by Madeleine Thien "Simple Recipes" got me through my recovery after a tonsilectomy.

I finally finished Jane Eyre, lent to me by a good friend who loves to read. My circle of friends is great for lending each other books, and I am loving it!

Been Here a Thousand Years by Mariolina Venezia was an awesome read and I recommend it to anyone.

Half Blood Blues. AWESOME BOOK! Plus Esi Edugyan is a Canadian gal so that rocks! This book is phenominal (about American Jazz artisits in Berlin and Paris during the rise of the Nazis.)

I loved reading the Hunger Games in Spanish this summer, and just finished The Tigers Wife - which I would highly recommend!

Next I am onto the Pianist Teacher and look forward to that!

Favorite Movies

Napoleon Dynamite /

The Princess Bride /

Where The Wild Things Are /

Footloose /

Dispicable Me/

Spanish language movies that are non-violent. If you can recommend me one, that would be wonderful!

Favorite Television

I proudly got rid of my television a couple years ago, and have never looked back! I am loving my TV free life! Give it a try sometime. Unplug it for a whole week, and see what you can get done!

Thought I must admit I do love Arrested Development and The Office and will watch them when I can get my hands on them! (both definately worth a little personally enforced rule breaking I think.)

Plus I watch a Mexican channel online TV AZTECA especially to see a cheesy overly dramatic tele-novella called Emperatriz. So good! and a great way to brush up on the language. Tambien me gusta ver Cosas De La Vida, pero es pura basura (y por eso me gusta!) Muchos chilangos, con problemas enormas!

Favorite Crafts

First and foremost right now: CROSS STITCH! Plus sewing, embroidery, card making, making post cards, altered book crafts (though they are pretty intense) and best craft of all: making people laugh!

I have dabbled in knitting and am working up the courage to start to crochet. I absolutely adore all the little crochet plushies on etsy- I aspire to make something so cute one day!

This summer I am oping to tackle a sewing project in which I aspire to make a replica of an HIV affected cell and make all the little pieces of the virus and the cell to show what HIV does once it enters a cell. It's complex stuff, but bringing to textile would make it accesable to people I think! Wish me luck! Or send me any links that you think might help out!

I am new to zen-tanlge and ATC's but have found the few I've done so far really fun!

Can't go wrong with...

I love to recieve embroidered or homemade patches, anything to do with embroidery, buttons or ribbon, pictures of Alice in Wonderland, The Rolling Stones, old west gun slingers, grafitti, absolutely anything Mexican or written in Spanish, ironic and politically incorrect postcards, just about any kind of sticker, doilies, vintage photos, straight pins, and have no beef with scents. I cycle to work, and an extra reflector or two can never hurt! I especially love the colours black, purple and green.

My apartment is small, but red runs through it, as do souvenirs from Mexico and other things latin. I love texture, and am nutty for fabric and stationery. I also love old black and white photos, ric rac, lace, and feathers.

I can never find much with my name on it, so personalized stuff is always neat! Or for the hunk in my life anything with an 'A' or anything personalized Alejandro would be a fun perk :)

We speak Spanish here at home as much as possible, and a post card, magazine article, comic or anything Spanish is always a treat to recieve.

I work in and HIV / AIDS Service Organization and am always on the look out for red ribon stuff (though it seems like all I ever see are the pink robbons.) So if you ever stumble across one, I would love to show off new merch at work like a poster, a post card, magnet, pin, coaster, decal, anything!

I am also an advocate for issues like literacy, prison reform and prisoners rights, food security, biking as a form of transportation, indigineous, immigrant, and womens rights.

I also teach beginner Spanish so any childrens flashcards (you know the Dora ones) or posters or anything along that line would be awesome! Because our second official language here in Canada is French, it makes Spanish a little harder to find... but I know that problem doesn't exist in the US!

I will pass on:

I am not a fan of anything too cutesy like angels, kittens or cartoons unless they are the vintage variety or somehow smart ass. I really am not big on politics, or geography.

Spiders really creep me out. I don't drink that much tea. I don't buy into the consumer culture and tv and movie references are often lost on me.

Other than that, I think I am pretty laid back and love to swap. Though I must say, I choose my swaps carefully and sign on only when I think it will be worth the postage and when I will get something roughly equivalent in value to that which I have sent. I always send out something that I would love to receive myself, and ask the same from other swappers. I rate 5 unless it clearly doesn't meet the swap requirement, and try not to be stingey with the hearts!

swap specific

tee shirt swap:
I would like a mens S or M, or a womans M (but I don't really wear women's style tee shirts - those tight ones with the v neck - I prefer to stick with the original style:)

I would love a tee shirt with Spanish written on it, or one with a red ribbon, I wear all colours, I am tall and can't wear short womens shirts. I love unknown band shirts, dinosaurs, bold colours, or dark colours, superheroes, birds, those wildlife tees you find at museums, astrology, the Rolling Stones (but the really vintage tees- not from the 90's). But you know I think I would be happy with anything!

Just stay away from the big plastic logos that tend to hang on to smells :( gross

UPDATE 2013

Canada Post has been letting me down a little lately. Slow mail is becoming the norm (nationally and internationally) So I ask you to be patient, and also promise that as soon as I recieve something from you I WILL rate!

Comment: This was such a beautiful and delicate swap. Also, something I've never seen before! It's too bad I have no bike to use it on, but I'll definitely find a home for it among my friends. So sorry about the extreme delay in rating you! I've only recently returned to the site. Thank you for your patience!🌻

Comment: Definitely a boring postcard! :-) Thanks for the resend! 13 May 2014 -- The first postcard you sent suddenly arrived today! Heavens only knows where it's been in the meantime -- maybe the postman was too bored to deliver it! Thank you for the card and for the website recommendation.
Response: Glad it finally made it your way, you never know, the first might still figure out where you live! :)

howdy for the 'leave a nice comment' swap.

first off on Dwight's jackets: http://bit.ly/9SRgMx

Its so neat that you speak Spanish up in Canada vs French at your house! I've had to learn Span-glish here in Texas to understand people at the stores!

And I am right there with you with not finding anything with your name on it... thanks to our 'creative' parents!! Hope you find fun & happiness here in the SB world of sharing! alyce
