About Me

Hi, I'm Jen!

I'm an Assistant Scoutmaster in a Boy Scout troop. I love hiking, camping, fishing, shooting, and pretty much anything else outdoors. My biggest postcard wishlist item is scouting postcards, especially international.

I love everything to do with nature, so anything with plants or animals makes me happy. I love botany and searching for interesting native plants. I also love animals and have chickens, a cat, a corn snake, a box turtle, a bearded dragon, and am fostering a savannah monitor.

I am a huge reader! I especially love non-fiction and classics, but am up for trying just about anything. I love classic authors like Shakespeare, Poe, Dickens, and Bradbury.

I love traveling to strange places and discovering oddities. I am very active on the Atlas Obscura website.

Comment: Jen, thank you for the postcard and the interesting fact. That was a good idea! Eagles were almost extinct in Virginia 40 years ago because of companies dumping chemicals in the James River. The chemicals (eaten by eagles in the fish they ate) weakened the birds’ eggshells so much that they wouldn’t stay intact thru the incubation period. One professor investigated & figured out the problem. Then it took literally almost a decade to get laws in place that prevent companies from dumping harmful items. Nowadays eagles thrive along the James River ! 🦅 Thank you!
