Comment: Thanks for your great answers! I too grew up Catholic and although my Mom let me get my ears pierced at 15 it was by our family Dr.; not at the Mall where all my friends had it done. One got infected and I went back to see him and would you believe he pulled the post out without taking the backing off from behind! Behind one of my earlobes it's mostly scar tissue and I've never had them redone. I'm sure he'd never done it before in his life, and man it HURT!
