Headlines

Just a quick note to update potential partners checking in. I've made a last minute trip and won't be getting my mail, so it might be a bit before I will rate. I have all my mail supplies though, so I will still be sending.

Previous to 2/27/24, I last logged on in December 2017, so it's been a minute. I'd like to start sending and receiving happy mail again.

That three is really old. I earned it during a really difficult time, and I'll own it.

Swap specifics

I'm rebuilding my profile as it occurs to me.

I pledge to rate. Please do not send extras to get a heart, I prefer them not. The only extras that interest me are an "ope" or anything kiwi--except not a live one, either the bird or any celebrity!

If we are partnered for a stuff the envie type swap, anything goes, so long as it is not smelly or dirty. Useful would be collage or junk journal materials, postcards, recipe cards, or stickers.

Did you know that a group of kiwis is a tribe?

Postcards: I like mine naked and tattooed. My grands homeschool, so if there is an educational aspect (map, state facts, historical information, monument, motto, scenic byway...) they usually end up in some curriculum kits to them.

Kiwi Quirks

The garden is my most happy place. I tend to grow what I can't source fresh locally. It is satisfying to put away the bounty of the seasons.

I detest housework and glitter. I enjoy magpie journals and collaging. My houseplants are my accountability partners

I didn't realize that junk journals were an official, recognized genre until I came here. Pocket journals are my most favorite, but pocket pages? Meh, I will only pillage its contents and cast it aside. Isn't your pocket page worthy of better?

What do you call a deer with no eyes?

I collect (and hoard, although they are creeping into my collages) single comic panels with the subject either making only a face or a gesture, or uttering only a sound or expletive. An "ope" remains elusive but tops my list.

If you plop me down in a strange city, I'm going to make a beeline for the market.

No i-deer. What do you call a deer with no eyes or legs?

Remember hardware stores? The ones where you could hand the older gent* behind the counter one-half of a piece of something that you needed to fix and he'd make his way around the counter and down the aisles and show you what you needed and ask a couple of questions to ensure that was all you really needed to make the repair? Or you could drop off your perfectly good stand mixer that just needed a grease replacement and pick it up good as new the next week?

Still no i-deer.

*I was a child the first time I needed a nut or bolt or oddment, so for all I know the "old gent" was 30. As a young housewife, the "old gent" was most certainly ancient and kindly, and cemented in my mind the picture of the hardware store proprietor, before hardware store proprietors went away.

Ampersands: I think I rescued my first one from one of those cheesy Mr. & Mrs. wedding reception decoration sculpture sets that were all the rage a few years ago. It was funny to me to display it all by its lonesome, apropos of nothing. Then it deputized a posse.

I lean towards the irreverent and enjoy a well-crafted naughty joke. I don't mind an F-bomb; I can string together expletives with the best of them--I learned to curse in the military and I can't think of a better way to celebrate a stubbed toe. I am only offended by a deliberately hurtful jibe.

There was a woman (I'm pretty sure it was a woman) of some celebrity who, when asked during an interview about moving on from relationships or something like that, answered that she simply determined that she wasn't meant to continue her journey with that person any longer. She bore them no ill will, she just wasn't going to travel onward with them. I try to practice that, but sometimes, I do hold a grudge. See deliberately hurtful jibe, above.

So you like an A-B-C list?

If not, you can skip it and still learn a lot about me elsewhere. I find them efficient and tiresome by turns, so tally me uncommitted. (I skipped the ones that I couldn't think of a word or phrase for Β―_(ツ)_/Β― )

Likes:
A - Ampersands. See Kiwi Quirks, above.
B - Books. There's not much I find not to like about books.
C - Chickadees. I like most birds, but chickadees will eat from my hand.
F - Food. Regional food, street food, seasonal food, carnival food.
G - I celebrate groundhog day, but groundhogs need to live their own lives away from me
H - Hardware stores. See Kiwi Quirks, above.
T - I like TV. I realize most content is banal, which is comforting. I liked soap operas. Now, I like cooking competitions (Top Chef Wisconsin anyone?!)
Z - Zentagles, Zetti

Dislikes:
C - "Conflate," used aloud; it is a written word, like, "Exclaim."
G - Glitter. I'm not going to rate you down for a glittered note card, but it really is wasted on me. The dust bunnies try to eat it, and it's not good for them.

Comment: Both of the eclipses found me partially in the path. The first time I set up a space at the park and in behalf of the library I work for, handed out glasses and other things for the kiddos. This time I was also working and just shared a pair of spectacles with a co-worker. Both viewings reminded me how very small and powerless us humans are!!!

Comment: Thank you so much for a beautiful blue pocket journal tag. I love it. It is stuffed with so many blue items. I like how you recycled items too. I was looking for purple coneflower seeds to plant in my front flower garden. thank you - I cant wait to get out and start playing in my gardens.

Comment: Lovely letter. What is it though about things exploding? You talked of your pie. Well, we stopped for breakfast before our plane trip back to Pa from Texas, on April 1st. I ordered eggs benedict but with a hard poached egg, not soft poached. When I put the knife in to cut down, it exploded with a pop and egg and Hollandaise sauce went everywhere, including my hair, face, clothes, table, booth and floor. It shocked me and everyone around us. I do think Mother Nature has a sense of humor to play such a joke on me. At least our "exploding" trees, pies and eggs, make a great memory. Have a great day. Happy Swapping.

Comment: Thank you for the handmade card. If it came from an Audubon calendar I'm guessing it is close up bird feathers. But it almost looks like a microscopic view of a butterfly.

Comment: Thanks so much for the lovely postcard! I completely understand not finishing books. Sometimes they just don't "spark joy," you know? I've tried to get my spouse to stop reading books that make him miserable, but he's very much of the idea that, once he starts it, he must finish it. So he continues to read it and just complains at me the whole time. XD I'm much better at dropping books than he is. Thank you for joining my swap, and have an awesome day!
Response: There are too many good books waiting to suffer through a bad [to me] one. Usually I will read the last few pages of any fiction before discarding just to determine if I should in fact find out how the end became the end. If I can satisfactorily fill in the blank with yadayadayada, I'm done.
