About Me

Let's see...I'm 27 years old, married with a dog, cat, horse and assorted fish. I'm a therapeutic riding instructor, working with emotionally troubled children--an awesome bunch of kids. I'm a student of history, and about halfway through a masters degree in history, with a specific focus on Medieval England. Eventually I would like to teach or pursue a career in the museum field. I love books and the written word and am plugging along on my first novel. Huge sci-fi geek, and love to work that into my crafting. Oh, and my biggest weakness is chocolate. :)

I love to cook, read, sew, embroider, ride, hike, did I mention read?, write, draw and knit.

Favorite Books

Changes based on what I'm reading currently, but can be reliably counted on to contain...Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Sparrow, The Lord of the Rings, Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell, A Fire Upon the Deep, Watership Down, The Alchemist, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, Good Omens, Farenheit 451.

Favorite Television

Star Trek, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, The Big Bang Theory, Fraggle Rock, The Prisoner, Blackadder, The Office

Favorite Crafts

Currently having fun with embroidery--combining more modern designs with traditional stitchery like cross stitch fascinates me.

I have a background in historical costuming (specifically Medieval and Elizabethan) and although I no longer do it professionally, I still love fashion and costume design. These days creating more costumes for sci-fi cons. Right now am in the middle of recreating the Cyber King red dress from "The Next Doctor" and a steampunk/Victorian gown.

Trying to get back into art--used to be an avid painter and illustrator, but out of practice. I am struggling to not be intimidated by the blank page and just jump in. Very inspired by mid century poster design and the art of comic book artists such as Dean Trippe.

Dabble in collage art, jewelry making, sculpture, doll making and quilting. Trying to teach myself crochet so I can make all those cute amigurumis I keep seeing everywhere.
