Hello, Fellow Travelers :)
We're all traveling through life, and bumping into each other makes the journey more fun.
Forging ahead with meaningful living, in partnership with my husband and our small black dog. I'm a justice-seeking homesteader concerned with the natural world, and who likes travel, hearing people's stories, and experiencing new things. Living in a beautiful and rural part of NJ (close to nature, quirky towns and the Delaware River) is a great joy.
INTERESTS: Gardening for food and pleasure (especially native plants, permaculture, and foraging); travel; hiking; learning about other cultures and beliefs; art (esp. nature- themed, Outsider Art, collage, typography, vintage letters and other ephemera, and folk art) modern design; mid-century modern stuff; museums; people watching; flea markets; science news; old things in general; color; humor; reading; making things that make people happy; window-shopping; new ideas; and hanging out in libraries and bookstores.
FAVORITE COLORS: Green, blue, turquoise and purple. Also browns, beiges, and natural colors, hot pinks and purples; sometimes orange and yellow.
BOOKS:
I even read while blow-drying my hair! Some of my favorite books, in no order at all: james, People of the Book, The Girl With All the Gifts, A Wrinkle in Time, Ahab's Wife, Elegance of the Hedgehog, Harry Potter, The Kitchen God's Wife, Their Eyes Were Watching God, State of Fear, Poisonwood Bible, Pillars of the Earth, Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, and Sapiens.
I enjoy contemporary fiction, historical fiction, humorous essays, craft and design books, sci fi, fantasy, garden/nature books, graphic novels, and whatever my book club tells me to read.
ART AND CRAFTS: I'm an appreciator of anything hand-made. Passionate about collage, gluing things in general, and mixed media. Also love modern art/design, folk art (consider visiting the Museum of the American Visionary in Baltimore- it's fabulous), art with an element of whimsy, vintage paper/lettering/postcards/ephemera, old advertising, and anything nature-inspired. Well-made and full of character are the qualities that draw me in.
MOVIES: Sci-fi is my hands-down favorite, and I'll see just about any film in the genre. Space movies, disaster flicks, action-adventure, fantasy, some chick flicks, historical fiction, and (unashamedly) Jane Austen stuff. Also smart comedies. Love to be lifted up and/or terrified.
STUFF I LIKE: Anything hand-made or thought-provoking
Themes: birds, ocean life, celestial stuff, microscopic things, insects, fortunes and fate, mysteries of the universe, perseverance, and nature in general.
Minerals and gems
Vintage things
Papers of all kinds (especially handmade or vintage)
Japanese and asian indian stuff
Things from other countries
Calligraphy (especially copper plate)
Insects
Unusual fabrics
Quilting scraps
Old, hand-written pages
Quotes
Old little boxes and containers
Old advertising
The smell of rosemary, mint, and clove
Iced teas
And you know what? If you send something you made, put time or thought into, I'm gonna love it.
NOT SO FOND OF: anything that's red and black in combination
burgundy, peach, terra-cotta, and similar shades (though I can tolerate a little bit mixed in to a broader palette.) I really have tried getting along with them.
dollar store/Walmart/mass produced stuff
cutesy-type things like Disney/teddy bears/snowmen. etc.
overwhelming fragrances/incense/smoke
missing the trailers at the beginning of a movie (who doesn't?)
