About Me

Hi! I'm a pin obsessed reader quiz taker extraordinaire here to receive and deliver joy in an envelope - or box as it may be.

I also have an unhealthy love of this amazing artist's work - check her out! She's linked above!

I am friendly, earnest, and I will flying triangle choke anyone who misuses my tenuous trust in this mutual swap system. Beware. For a taste of the personal I am willing to share here that I am quite interested in all things to do with Peter Pan and The Last Unicorn. Genial scripting generally makes my day. More seriously, I have recently earned a BA in psychology with aspirations of becoming a therapist to prison inmates and troubled teens. Once I become established financially and socially, I intend to foster and adopt as many young people about to age out of the foster system as the government will allow. I want to die relatively young as that strong, slightly elderly person with a braid past her butt that never got married but adopted a large group of young people, grappled, and rode horses until her last day. I am a published poet, a passable seamstress, a trained dancer/choreographer, a commissioned amateur vocalist, amateur drag king, and therapist to be.

Favorite Music

As far as music goes, I listen to everything from classical to death metal with the exception of most rap and country. However, I adore Eminem. There's that genial scripting thing I mentioned. I take my eclectic tastes seriously, having grown up alternately on Billy Joel and ICP. Yeah. My current favorites include Tracy Chapman, Marilyn Manson, and SHINee. Incubus's "Hold Me Down" and Olafur Arnold's "Fok" have been on repeat for the past several days - I can't get enough of those songs. When "Broken" isn't playing lately, Bad Company's "Burnin Sky" has been. I won't list all of the things that I listen to as that would take an inordinate amount of time, but if you're looking to recommend music for me strong vocals are a safe bet.

Favorite Books

I am in fact a bookworm. The list of books that significantly changed me reads as follows: The Deed of Paksenarion by Elizabeth Moon// Things Fall Apart by Achebe// Gilead's Blood by Dan Abnett and Nik Vincent// Peter and Wendy by J.M. Barrie// The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle// The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers// Blood and Chocolate by Anette Curtis Klause// The Elric Saga by Michael Moorcock// To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee// The Drizzt Saga by R.A. Salvatore//

I have read each of these books at least three times, though some of them I have read more than fifteen times. These books kept me company when company was scarce and I'll forever cherish them.

Give me anything to do with Peter Pan and I'll read it happily.

Favorite Television

I don't watch television, actually. On the rare occasion I find something on TV I like, I will hunt it down in DVD format until I own it all. Case in point : Eric Kripke's "Supernatural". I own every episode ever made and then hooked a few of my family members on it. On the other hand I am a voracious anime fan.

Favorite Characters

I am thoroughly intrigued by J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan and the various interpretations of Peter, Hook, and Wendy that exist in movie, graphic novel, and classic novel adaptations and sequels.

From The Last Unicorn, Schmindrick the Magician and "the boob tree" have always fascinated me. Although Boob Tree is only animated for a short time I feel that she has a lot to say about nature and womanhood.

Comics too are dear to my heart. Anything Batman or X-Men will most likely speak to me. Specifically, Gambit is my current comic obsession.

I also have a fondness for particular character archetypes that pop up in international folklore. Specifically, the crow and fox animal archetypal characters as well as the white haired swordsman figure.

If you're interested in more detailed examples of these archetypes I would be more than pleased to discuss the topic via private message.

Favorite Illustrators

F.D. Bedford's illustrations for Peter and Wendy have influenced children's book illustrations since the book was published. Besides that, they're entrancing. Similarly, Alice B. Woodward's water colors for the Peter Pan Picture Book are touching and capture the dreamlike quality of Barrie's story while managing to balance fragility and a human, lifelike quality for their content.

Stan Lee's work with X-Men is of course legendary for their detail, accuracy to the characters, and emotion.

Yoshitaka Amano's inks and water colors from the Vampire Hunter D series and his art book "The Virgin" are fantastic.

Hello dear, welcome to swap bot!

I saw your comment on my swap - do something for your kids school. I responded there but will here as well: I left the send date open longer for this very reason. You don't have to have it completed until January 18th :)

Here is a link to the swap if you'd like to join it :) http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/108203

Hello there--welcome to Swap-Bot!

When you've completed a few more swaps, I'd like to invite you to join our group The Hundred Acre Wood . As someone with a love for children's books, you might enjoy what we're doing over there.

Cheers,

Mimi
