About Me

Helloo! My name is Shannon and I am an early-30s Canadian Mrs, and mommy to a beautiful, clever little girl! I am happily married to a wonderful sweet Belgian man who thinks my love for pens, paper, stickers and snailmail is adorably Dorky.

We are homesteaders living in rural Nova Scotia. We have dairy goats, chickens, a free range bunny, a shetland pony, 2 dogs and a cat. I bake bread, make cheese and yogurt, grow a garden, preserve food, etc. It's something I am very passionate about and brings me a lot of sore muscles and exhaustion, but espexially joy :) Life gets busier than usual sometimes, so there are often gaps in my swapping activities. I swap when I feel I have time to commit to it and I stay away when life is hectic, but I always come back around when things slow down again :)

I believe that the best possible weather is Light hoodie temperature with the sun shining behind a few puffy white clouds and a cool breeze that gently ruffles the leaves. Perfection!

I have a wide variety of other interests, but to name a few; Reading, writing, walking, hiking, travelling, pen-paling, Bande Dessiné ( French and French Belgian comic books), swimming, crafting, thrift stores, roadtrips, watercolouring and probably much more but my mind is blanking under pressure :)!

I'm always interested in meeting other farm/ homestead ladies, so message me if you'd like to do a swap or exchange letters!

Favorite Crafts

I really enjoy mail art and paper crafts; doodling on envelopes, washi tape, stickers, fun papers etc. I've recently discovered flipbooks and junk journals and am having quite some fun with those :p

I like writing, I have a few penpals I've been exchanging letters with for a while, but every now and then, there is a dry spell during which I enjoy some letter swaps.

I'm very interested in different types of journals! Junk journals, diary type journals, art journals, etc. but don't do much because they are a big commitment!

I've newly discovered watercolour painting and enjoy it, though I'm not very skilled. Yet !

For exchange purpose

Firstly, I'm not all that picky. I put time and effort into my swaps and try to send things I think you will like, and all I can ask is that you do the same for me. However, I know many people (including me) find it easier to put together a package when they have an idea of a persons likes and dislikes so here are a bunch of things :)

Crafting: I'm a big sucker for stickers, always have been always will be! However, I'm always open to new and interesting supplies! My favourite colours are turquoise, greens and blues, but I like all colours.

Favourite prints and themes: Hot air balloons, vintage housewife/1950's , Boule & Bill( Buddy and Billy), Martine (from the Martine books by Marcel Marlier and Gilbert Delahaye), nautical themes, farm themes, chickens, apples, pears, lemonade, tea/teacups, Chickens, farm animals, farm related. Did I say Chickens yet? ;) And goats!!

Tea, Coffee and other beverages: I love tea!! Fruity teas especially. Not a huge fan of oolongs and green tea without flavours. I love coffee too! Also open to pretty much any hot beverage or even cold ones like crystal light and such... as long as its in a factory sealed wrapper, I'm happy :)

Coins: I collect coins and foreign currencies, especially out of circulation currency or currency with colourful interesting designs, so that is ALWAYS welcome! :) I am also looking for USA quarters with the states(Still need about 30 states) and national parks(missing about 50 of theses :P ) on them as well as Canadian quarters with the provinces on them( Missing British Colombia and Nunavut). I will happily do private swaps for coins and can trade coin for coin or coin for something you collect if I have/can get it!

Naked Postcards: I'm not particularly fussy, but I particularly enjoy whimsical colourful ones, black and whites, non touristy, and creative touristy ( The ones that include a tourist attraction in a shot but do not make it the center of attention or include an element of humour), touristy ones with a naturey element, geeky postcards from my favourite TV shows or musicians, and tea related ones! That being said, I'd be happy with any pretty postcard chosen with care :)

For unused postcard, anything in good condition goes! If I can't use it, I can swap it!

Musci, TV, pop culture, books

Geekery:I like Doctor who (Matt Smith!! Tardis, Daleks), Yoshi & Toad, Lord of the rings & The Hobbit, as well as Sherlock, Torchwood and Breaking bad, the walking dead and Game of Thrones. Music: I love Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, The Kooks, The Coronas & The pigeon Detectives, Bastille, Johnny Cash..

Actors and famous people: My favourite actor was Heath Ledger. I also really like Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes and many others in the comedy side of things.

Books: I love reading! I enjoy many genres, but find myself coming back to historical fiction and YA a lot. I also enjoy a good mystery ! I never grew out of my love of Dr. Seuss either :p Some all time favourite books are the LoTR series, Hunger games series, Divergent series, Catch me if you can , Snow flower and the secret fan, and many more that can be seen on my Goodreads! :)

Allergies and Canadian postal

Allergies: I have allergy induced asthma which makes me sensitive to second hand smoke and smell absorbing items such as books and cloths that smell strongly of cigarettes or dust. I am also sensitive to any metal jewelry that isn't hypoallergenic/surgical steel, sterling silver or gold. Wood, plastic and leather etc all seem fine :)

There are import restrictions on Plants, seeds and other agricultural products, this includes wood and leaves.

Oh and you can't send me rough cut diamonds without proper documentation...because I'm sure you were planning on sending me diamonds! XP

You can find full regulations here if you want: http://www.canadapost.ca/tools/pg/manual/PGcustoms-e.asp#1384879

Comment: Thank you for your card and note. Yes, I am afraid I have not kept up with the Old School Skills group. That is cool you have two goats. Goats look super cute, and they have such fun personalities. I like the wooden painted flower bookmark that you sent, but it broke in two on its way here. The bloom was snapped off at the thinnest part of the stem. It would probably go through the post better in a box or bubble mailer. I thought that floral wrapping paper was pretty!
Response: Oh no! I'm so sorry it broke! I thought it would do well since it was a sturdy material. I will send you a replacement, although I'm not sure I will be able to get another wood bookmark. I'll try to find something else you will like :) Goats are pretty cool...if you like misbehaving toddlers, you'll get along grand with goats hahaha!

Comment: I loved your letter! Some of it just wanted me to get in my car and drive there. The bike rides for ice cream, swimming in the ocean, the bech sounds so relaxing. It sounds so slow paced even if you had other things going. Thank you so very much! Liked the extras too!
Response: Oh! You would be most welcome to drive down! Though the temperature has dropped significantly now. You should have seen the beach the morning after Canada day. We were there at 9am and it was sool quiet and peaceful, with just the smell of burned out fireworks and breakfast starting to cook in the cottages. Delightful!

Comment: I LOVE BUTTERNUT SQUASH!!! Thank you so much, I am going to make my own now, I had to buy it pre-made from the store...now I don't! This is my favorite! Thank you!!!!!!
Response: You are very welcome!! I hope you enjoy it! It is of course best with "real" pasta dough, but the wonton wraps make it soooo much quicker and easier! I'm currently prancing around the squash patch about 4 times a day checking if any of my butternut are ready for eating haha!

Comment: I enjoyed reading about your day and brought lots of memories with small children. It is a bit different because of us having older children and more help here! It is so weedy here and been mowing twice a week because it is rainy but also the heat makes everything keep growing.
Response: Oh I hear you with the rain and heat! I stopped trying to keep up with the weeds in the paths of the garden, I can only keep the base of my plants relatively clear!
