Oh, where to start? I've loved books since I learned to read. Fiction or Non-fiction, it doesn't matter as long as it's well-written. Here's an incomplete list of my favorites, to give ya an idea of my tastes:
The Demolished Man by Alfred Bester
Travels with Charley by John Steinbeck
A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking
All the Harry Potters by JK Rowling (although I'm most fond of 5 and 7)
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Watchmen by Alan Moore
Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman
House of Leaves by Mark Z Danielewski
Till We Have Faces by CS Lewis
Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrel by Susanna Clarke
Fermat's Enigma by Simon Singh
The Shining, Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, Bag of Bones, and Lisey's Story by Stephen King
The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen
American Gods by Neil Gaiman
I'm not too crazy about most movies as a rule, but this bunch has made the cut:
V for Vendetta
The Man in the Iron Mask
Love, Actually
Serenity
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
The Labyrinth
Star Trek (the latest one and a couple old ones)
The Matrix Trilogy
Children of Men
Zack and Miri Make a Porno
Ratatouille
Happy Gilmore
It's a Wonderful Life
Little Women
The Discovery Channel
The Science Channel
The Food Network
Firefly
Dexter
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Friends
The Big Bang Theory
Honestly, I think this category should be "Favorite Hobbies," so that's what I'm gonna go with
Knitting
Gardening
Learning
Hiking
Math
Baking/Cooking
Hey there I'm Nikki and I've lived in the Pacific Northwest for my whole life. I majored in Mathematics at Seattle U (go Redhawks) and now currently do something entirely unrelated to my major. But that's ok, it's pretty interesting.
I live with my hubby, 2 kitties, 3 tortoises, and a Uromastyx (that's a lizard)
I joined this site so that I can learn about other people in other parts of the world. Since I can barely stand to fly, I would consider this a way to travel to sights unseen vicariously :)
If you're making something for me and are looking for inspiration, here's some helpful hints.
I'm not into celebrities. If Justin Beiber is your heart and you must feature him in a collage or bookmark you send to me, then go ahead, but it will be lost on me.
I love trees. If I have a favorite thing, it's trees.
Wait, maybe my favorite things are science and mathematics....
Due to my mathematical tendencies, I find regular patterns and symmetry very appealing. Asymmetrical designs can be lovely, but I do find them jarring.
I'm crazy about animals. My top favorites are any species of cat, all birds, porpoises, and all fish. My hubby loves all reptiles, amphibians, and cephalopods. We both like any and all mammals alright. So, if you send something with an animal on it, you're golden.
I love water and stone. Not too crazy about the popular tropical beach theme, however.
My favorite colors are red, green and purple, but all colors have a purpose and look good in the correct conditions. I like contrast, and am not fond of blue.
I love microbreweries. We have great ones in the Pacific Northwest, but if you can send me coasters or bottlecaps from a microbrewery in your neighborhood, that'd be cool ^.^
Pearl Jam - my first love
Modest Mouse
Green Day - pre-2000
Tegan and Sara
Fall Out Boy
Led Zeppelin
Bush
Nickel Creek
Pretty much anything Grunge, yay '90's!
