my name is irene, but just about everyone who knows me calls me reenie. (i recently changed my name since my divorce and am now back to my maiden name.)

i was born in los angeles, california on december 24th to my parents, who divorced 18 months later. my mom was in the us navy for 12 years and we moved around a lot. i've lived all over the usa but am settled in the pacific northwest, specifically, washington.

i was married to a navy submariner for 16 years. we divorced in june 2015.

i lost my sweet baer-kitten in december 2021. he was 11 years old. my heart hurts everyday.

i adore snail mail, pen pals, reading, swapping (obviously), gardening, although I don't have a yard of my own, photography (i have a canon dslr, which i refer to as big daddy, and an instax), and journaling.

everything else: i am not especially picky but i do detest anything that's obviously cheap. i love trying new recipes so please don't hesitate to send me printed versions of your favorites. mix cds are also welcome although i know we're not supposed to send them.

i love books. bookie-book-books. noms. i am an avid reader of just about everything, but historical fiction/non-fiction, specifically from the tudor- and elizabethan-eras, is often what i read most. i also enjoy reading mystery, fantasy, some science-fiction, and just about any kind of fiction. some favorite authors include anne rice, robin maxwell, margaret george, alice munro, juliet blackwell, amy tan, anne mccaffrey, mercedes lackey, marion zimmer-bradley, linda lay schuler, alison weir, octavia butler, chuck palahniuk, sue harrison, jean m. auel, wally lamb, isaac marion, jodi picoult, chuck palahniuk, and half a dozen others.

i loathe romance novels so please don't send them.

i am a keen collector of postcards. while i'm happy with most kinds of posties, i do have a few types that i would give you a heart for sending including:
