About Me

πŸ’™ January 2023- My focus word for this year is "FUTURE" an expectation of advancement or progressive development

I'm a country girl stuck in the city!

πŸ’™Updated January 2023 Happy New Year!!

❀️ Today is Oct 13th 2022.. 25 years ago today my sweet mama left this earth on a beautiful sunny day. Seems like it was only yesterday..... She loved Autumn. If she were here now she would be in shock at everything going on in our world. Remember to be kind and enjoy small pleasures. If someone doesn't have a smile give them one of yours.

πŸ’™ February 2022- Update December 2022, my collection is complete! Thank you to everybody who contributed to making this happen and a big thank you to @Highlander18 who sent me so many! ❀️ I appreciate you one and all! ❀️ I am starting a new collection this year for USA map postcards, unwritten, blank. I also collect anything of my home state of Oregon. Vintage would be so fun! (Oregon new or used)

Other postcards: from where you travel or live, animals, animals, animals, anything from my ABCs of Me.

πŸ’™ I enjoy my art and junk books/journaling. I work in small journals, 6"x8" Dyllusions art journal (got a great deal on these when I attended art journal classes locally a few years ago) and travelers notebook size. I write in my journals, add photos of my photography and family. I enjoy genuine vintage ephemera especially colorful; bright or pastel. I enjoy artsy, mixed mediums in art journaling; gelli prints, paint, watercolor, inks, rubber stamps, hand drawing, collage, fussy cuts..so much fun! Best way to describe my style is "eclectic" from cute to vintage, zetti to whimsy weird/cute, colorful.

πŸ’™ We enjoy many other activities as you can read the ABCs of me. My husband has been 3D printing items. Three years ago he bought his first printer from Craigslist. We've had more fun with this new age machine! Lol And making fun gifts for family, friends, and swap-bot pals. Hubby and me use to travel but we are slowing down and focusing on retirement in the next 3-5 years. We're both looking forward to growing a vegetable garden again. Gardens don't do well where we are now, too many evergreens surrounding us.

πŸ’™ I really appreciate a note or letter from my pals here. It's always enjoyable reading what everybody is doing, your thoughts, how you made your art, your travels. Thank you for sharing a bit of your life with me! ❀️

Happy 2022 everybody! It didn't start off that great and it finally happened. I tested positive for Covid19. Lucky for me I am fully vaccinated and boosted. Feeling much better now and happy to say the only thing lasting is fatigue. Hubby had no symptoms. 🀞 Change so much change the last two years...

"There is always light, if only we are brave enough to see it. If only we are brave enough to be it." ~Amanda Gorman National Youth Poet Laureate #InauguralDay 2021

January 1st 2021!! So thankful for a New Year! I started my new year off right by calling and talking with my two young Granddaughters at midnight. Lol So cuute! ❀️ It took awhile but I finally came up with my word for the this year and it's....LIGHT After the darkness of 2020 the world needs some light and a glimmer of hope as we head into 2021.

Today is September 18th 2020...."Oregon my beautiful Oregon do what you do best...RAIN" It's raining in northern Oregon!! My family and friends are safe! My son in Southern Oregon called early this morning to happily report he can see down the street and clouds (not smoke) in the sky. For the first time in over a week we have windows and doors open. A great day to be thankful!! ❀️

Update: September 14th 2020.... A lot of you have been asking how I'm doing here in Portland Oregon. Thank you for asking. πŸ’› We are doing okay. We live near the WA state border and are away from the downtown area where most of the riots and demonstrations are happening. The wildfires have affected our family and friends in evacuations, all levels in Southern Oregon (our hometown is there, our hearts are broken πŸ’”) and my oldest Sister living 40 minutes south of us. Two friends lost their homes in Southern and still waiting to hear about some if their homes will be saved. We are in no immediate danger. Except the air quality is awful in most of Oregon.

It's time to update my profile....Goodness, way overdue! Today is July 8th 2020. My hubby is going into week 17 of working at home. He's an IT professional. Lots going on and all we can do is be hopeful and live each day trying not to dwell on everything happening in our world. We are very blessed and for that we are grateful.

We have one cat who has our heart. Our beautiful Yuki Maru. In Japanese it means snowball thus her white fluffy coat. It suits her. Our little 'sack 'o sugar" At her first health check years ago the vet told her that. It's true, she's the little princess in our home. She is 18 years old. We lost her sister Oni in March 2019. Our hearts were broken. RIP little one. ❀️

When growing up there were always animals in our family. (hubby not always a fan, lol) I even had a horse when I was 14 but I was not a good cowgirl! Lol We've had rabbits, rats, horses, chickens, an 'onery little black rooster named 'Chuckles' who would chase me all over the yard! Lol My brother had a horse named Shawnee and a 4H hog one year. I miss our little dog Blondie, One year when Christmas shopping Blondie came home with us! Hubby was not happy but she was well loved by her human children and our home was hers for 17 years. Animals are amazing!

Humor is good for your soul! I love it when we can laugh and one of the things I love about my sweet husband of 41 years. He always makes me laugh, he's my best friend. ❀️

πŸ’™πŸ’™ ABC Easy as 1-2-3...OH wait that's a song..lol This is the ABCs of me. Reading these on others profiles so thought I would add one as well.

Favorite Crafts and Art

I have tried a lot of art and crafts in my life. While I am no expert I do have an eclectic style and appreciation of art in many forms. Handmade is always appreciated and treasured.

πŸ’™ Sewing was the first craft I learned when I was ten years old. My angel mother taught me and I designed my own shirt. lol After 50 years I still enjoy sewing. Although I made my own prom dress, wedding dress and clothes as a teenager, Halloween costumes for my kids and granddaughters I don't sew many clothes now.

πŸ’™Quilting, My Grandmother, my Dad's mother was an amazing quilter. Still have one of the last quilts she made for my Dad. What a treasure!

πŸ’™ Art Journaling. In 2017 I started attending monthly art journal classes at a local store. I loved it so much! Also attended a monthly paper craft club with challenges and incredible peeps' creations, prizes and coupons. I sure do miss not being able to attend since the pandemic. Or meeting my friend for lunch before club. I still enjoy working in my journals and learned a lot from our wonderful teacher, Lori. She has forever inspired me!

πŸ’™ LOVE true Vintage ephemera! My favorites are 1970s and earlier....vintage textiles, fabrics and scraps, sewing and hand stitching items, vintage magazines, fashion and sewing magazine pages or vintage sewing books, cookbooks, children's books, readers and song books, old medical, geography or encyclopedia pages, wallpaper and wrapping paper, vintage ads and pamphlets, sewing patterns from 1970s or earlier, vintage rhinestones and costume jewelry, old type written letters and documents, forms and envelopes, old handwritten letters are a favorite

πŸ’™ I enjoy "junkin'" for art junk /vintage treasures My bestest pen pal gave our goodies the name "art junk" And when my sister goes antique hunting she calls it 'junkin'" Well the terms stuck! lol Love that!

πŸ’™ My favorite artist is Marjolein Bastin (nΓ©e uit den Bogaard) (born 1943) is a Dutch nature artist, writer, children's author and illustrator. She is the creator of the character "Vera the Mouse" I discovered her 25 years or so ago when I use to buy Hallmark cards that featured her beautiful watercolor artworks including Vera the Mouse. I have a large framed print "Nature's Sketchbook" hanging on the wall by my art desk that I love!

Favorite Television

My husband and I watch TV together through the week but I also watch shows while he plays computer games. Lol A few of my favorites are; World's Funniest Animals, Young Sheldon, Survivor (since the beginning) NCIS, NCIS Hawaii, Americas Got Talent, La Brea, Wednesday, Dateline, 48 Hours, Netflix and Paramount some. Sad to say some of my favorites are no more. Old favorites; Grease, Ghost, Dirty Dancing, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Avatar, Breakfast Club, Original Ghostbusters. Old shows: I Love Lucy, That Girl, Gilligan's Island, Mork and Mindy, Welcome Back Kotter, Laverne and Shirley, Happy Days, Lassie, Bewitched, Little House on the Astroid, I mean Prairie. Sorry I had to, my hubby hated that show! Lol

Music and Dance

My favorite music is from1970s, 80s, 90s. Also love Elvis and music from the 1950s. I like old school country; Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson. Easy listening, James Taylor, Jewel, Enya and Adele. Also love Boston, Peter Frampton, Heart, Sir Elton John. I grew up with a country music loving family, but I'm a rock n roll girl! In 1980 I met my dear hubby at an under 21 club, a disco-tech called "Fat City" in Medford Oregon. Yes I still enjoy disco music and love dance! The days of our dancing together, what magic!! I enjoy watching dance reality TV, ice skaters and ballerinas, hip-hop It's just wonderful live art to me!

*Please don't send me anything with nuts, seeds, popcorn or peanuts/peanut butter. I can't eat them anymore. Ugh...plain milk, white, or dark chocolate, jelly beans or fruity candy I can have.

*paper scraps

*While I l love my junk journals please don't send me your everyday trash.

*pencils, erasers, reward stickers, window clings for children

*socks (someone sent me a children's size that I couldn't wear) make-up or make-up bags, mug rugs/coasters. I appreciate all the handmade coasters but we now have plenty AND I use and enjoy all of them! All around our home. My BFF has also made some for hubby and me.

*Spiders, eeek! Bugs, snakes and lizards eek! I guess I do like a lot more reptiles than I admit. Lol I love to watch anything about the animal world on TV or Netflix. So interesting and entertaining! Bees especially honey bees are okay. :-)

I have a pet peeve about receiving something back in a swap, tag etc that I sent to the person just weeks before! Or ugly things no one wants, or you don't want. I don't want it either. How rude!

Swapping and mailing

I always send my swaps and rate promptly and say thank you. Same for wishes, tags, and RAKS. If I don't respond it means I didn't receive. I always communicate with my partners when needed via the swap-bot messenger system. Sometimes an occasional email message. Please do the same for me. Our mailbox where we receive mail is locked. I drop off mail inside the post office. The outgoing mailbox where I live has a 3/4" drop slot and mail can get wet in there. Not ideal. I go to the post office once or twice a week for mailing. When I drop off my swaps and other mail, that's when I mark sent because after all I did mail it off. Mail may not get postmarked for the same day. The two post offices I use have different hours and only one is open on Saturday for short hours, so please keep that in mind if you are a postmark police! I also take photos of sent swap mail in case it's needed. Stay safe and craft on! πŸ’›β€οΈπŸ’›

debbiespoms rated for GIRAFFE Postcard on Jan 19, 2023
Comment: Hi Bonnie! What a nice surprise to receive this so cute Giraffe PC from you! Thank you very much! Staying healthy here, yes we are. We're having considerable unusual weather here for January. It has been in the upper 40's. Normally we're having cold snap and temps well below 0. Which I hate! But I welcome this mild weather and only hope it stays this way. But I'm not holding my breath, ha! Glad to hear, you and your grand daughter got to see live Giraffes. They're so fascinating and one of my favorite wild animals. I as well some years back seen Giraffes, at the Philadelphia, PA. Zoo. That place is so big and takes close to 3 days to cover it all. But we stayed down in Philly for 1 1/2 days, as we aren't not city life people, but all around country bumpkins, ha! We wanted to go back the following year, to see the rest of it. But Covid struck. Not sure we will make there again even this year. Guess will see. But I got a ton of pictures of what we did see there. Anyway, I always so enjoy swapping with you! Take care and Happy New Year to you too!
Response: You're welcome and thank you always for such a nice response and rating! My grand is almost 11 and wonder if she would feed the giraffe again. Lol She still loves animals though. Gosh I miss the country SO much and have spent most of my life in the country! Stay warm Deb!
Comment: Thank you for the lovely postcard! All of the songs you listed are my favorites too! I love Christmas music and will sing the songs all year round. Hope you had a nice holiday season. Take care and keep on swapping...
Response: Very welcome! So glad your PC arrived and thank you for the nice rating. Lol Same here, but my husband groans if he hears Christmas music too soon. Boo! πŸ˜‰ Happy New Year, hope 2023 is good to you!
