About Me

12/31/2021--I'm ready to get back to swapping! I think for 2022 I'm going to focus mostly on pen-palling/letter swapping. I've not written a letter in a few months because of so much other stuff going on; now that things are settling down I'm ready to renew those long-distance friendships and begin new ones.

I appreciate the thoughtfulness when swap partners add extras, but I'm almost out of crafting storage space, so none are expected!

8/2021--I just got a refurbished Selectric II typewriter! So for the foreseeable future most letters/notes will be typed until the novelty wears off for me. If you prefer hand-written missives, I apologize in advance. 🤣

PoGo Trainer Code (I play daily once again, after having a break of not playing for about 16 months): 9528 2974 7854

A few things about me:

  • 48yo, female, married w/ 4 kids (2 grownup twins, 1 college student, 1 teen)
  • she/her
  • LBGTQ ally 🏳️‍🌈🌈
  • INFJ
  • Enneagram type 6
  • atheist homeschooler--no denim jumpers here!
  • I cook several hours a day--all gluten-free and vegan (I am omni, but don't eat meat at home, dh and kids are all veg)
  • constantly reading, don’t leave home without my Kindle or a book
  • unrepentant potty mouth
  • I love coffee all day and white wine at night
  • NPR is my jam
  • I don't really listen to music often; my brain works in words. I also don't watch movies often, maybe once or twice a year. My attention span just doesn't allow me to. TV shows (on Netflix, Hulu, etc., we don't have an actual provider) work better, but I would much rather be reading than watching.
  • I like to write and receive long, newsy letters, though I warn that I'm not terribly efficient at time management so I might not write for a month then three times the following month. I'm full of surprises that way!
  • Mail art delights me. #NoPlainEnvelopes

  • Books! Fiction, non-fiction, mysteries, thrillers, classics, poetry...I will read pretty much anything except fantasy/sci-fi. I like there to be at least some semblance of realism. Favorite authors, in no particular order:

    • David Sedaris
    • Diana Gabaldon
    • Chris Bohjalian
    • Lisa Gardner
    • Louise Erdrich
    • Harper Lee
    • Heather Morris
  • Most of the day I listen to podcasts/news shows while working, driving, crafting, etc. If I'm not reading, I'm listening. Some favorite podcasts, in no particular order:

    • Morning Joe
    • Coronavirus Global Update
    • The Moth
    • The Rachel Maddow Show
    • The Reidout
    • Mea Culpa
    • Deadline: White House
    • Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me!
    • Code Switch
    • Mortified
  • sarcasm

  • smart, creative women, especially in the arts and politics
  • unique/unusual washi and stickers
  • Indigo Girls, my favorite band and almost the only music I listen to
  • colors: olive/jade green is favorite, followed by purple, teal, turquoise, and yellow
  • bright prints/motifs, but also muted/vintage 🤷🏼‍♀️
  • letter sets
  • unusual paper--textured, handmade, from old ledgers, vintage library cards, telegrams, etc.
  • men in kilts
  • retro images, especially retro women
  • art nouveau
  • art deco
  • mandalas
  • botanical images, esp. daisies, sunflowers, bonsai, moss, mushrooms
  • butterflies, dragonflies, moths
  • unusual typography
  • book/magazine pages, especially vintage or non-English
  • kaleidoscopes & similar imagery
  • pens--current fave is Frixion 0.7 mm gel ink roller

  • hair
  • rodents
  • housework
  • stereotypical "girly" stuff
  • animal prints
  • camel toe
  • fantasy/sci-fi
  • traditional holiday stuff; it just seems so artificial, especially xmas
  • anything containing lavender (I'm allergic). Love the color, not the plant
  • sweets/candy
  • chocolate 🤢
  • ribbon/fabric
  • religious or faith-based ANYTHING
  • “cute” or kawaii
  • kiddie/juvenile stuff

Favorite Postcard Themes:

  • out-of-the-ordinary
  • feminist
  • books/bookstores/authors
  • artists/art
  • food/drink, esp. coffee or wine
  • humorous
  • eccentric/odd
  • vintage
  • non-touristy

Comment: Dear Debbie, thank you soo very much for your awesome letter. First of all: It simply looks stunning! The envelope was beautiful decorated already and than the matching letter paper? Amazing! XD - I also have a typewriter, but shame on me, do not use it as often as I would like to... The traditional holiday season in my area in Germay was completly cancelled (to many covid-cases) and so I hope 2022 will bring a christmas market again. I missed this and the annual book fair in Leipzig in march more than anything else (from the point of everything that got canceled sind 2020) and maybe... Well, but let's see. ^^° We also have a rather warm winter with ~ 40 F. It's strange to already see flowers bloom at the beginning of february! I wish you a great and healthy 2022 and all the best! :-) Yours, Maxi
Response: I have got to remember to take pics of my swaps; I wish I knew what the envelope/paper looked like! Thank you for letting me know I did a good job. :) I really hope 2022 brings the best market & book fair ever!
Comment: Thank you for the pretty typewriter letter! I love typewriters, used to have one that was my mom's. I will one day own one yet again! I was homeschooled and plan on homeschooling my own kids :) how cool! Also recently went gluten-free and dairy-free for the sake of my newborn son.. it's interesting but I'm so glad more foods are labeled! take care~!

Comment: I was so sad when I had to rip.the snail mail sticker to open the envelope, so I was really excited to see you sent me some in the letter! Thank you. I hope you got your contact situation taken care of quickly. I don't like wearing my glasses outside either. I also hope your son is safely ensconced in his college apartment and your anxiety has lessened.
Response: Lol, my anxiety just moves on to the next worry! He will be moving in on Monday 🤞
Comment: I recently got a typewriter that I'm very excited about. We have a place nearby I will take it to to ensure it is working correctly. I can't wait to use it. Good luck with yours.
