Description:

Here's a quick little e-mail swap for those of us who watch (and love) a lot of movies, inspired by Mikka's Fifty Movies you Must See.

You will send your partners a list of at least 20 movies you highly recommend, that haven't gotten the attention you think they deserve - lesser-known stuff, not blockbusters or films most people would consider classics. Maybe something you stumbled on by pure chance, channel-surfing late at night, a movie you loved as a kid that's since faded from collective memory, or something you caught during a short-lived art house run. Don't worry about coming up with the most obscure things you've ever seen (after all, some movies stay unknown for a reason!), but do dig deeper than Disney, or Star Wars, or Titanic... you know?

You must write a short description of each movie - its genre, what it's more-or-less about, why you like it. Feeling ambitious? Write a long(er) description, suggest why your partner(s) might like it, include a link to a trailer or clip.

For the sake of sincerity, titles are going to be sender's choice, but please be reasonable - if a movie you're recommending has... "adult content," or violence, or potentially upsetting/offensive content, make sure you mention this in its description, and keep in mind that if your partners' favorite films are, say, The Sound of Music, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and It's a Wonderful Life... they might not get real stoked about a list of just 1970s kung fu and Italian slasher movies.* Just sayin.' So try to include a little variety, if you can.

If you don't get a list from one of your partners, please contact them before rating! Make sure their list didn't accidentally end up in your spam folder. Noobs welcome with filled-out profiles. I will try to ward off any flakery, but will angel/find angels if it happens. If this gets a lot of participants, I'll up the number of partners (it's an e-mail swap, so this shouldn't put extra strain on anyone), or host it again.

Whoo! Movies. Hoorays.

  • I personally would be fine with this, tho'

By the way - if, once you write out your descriptions and add linkage or what have you, your e-mail is going to be fairly long (mine is going to be), consider sending your list as an attachment. Some e-mail programs block or truncate long messages.
