Description:

The Victorians had a charming tradition of leaving a lovely calling card when they visited one another.

Here are some wonderful examples of calling cards from the past.

For this swap you will have two partners, and will send to each partner -

a - One beautiful calling card with your name or screen name on it (no completely plain cards or business cards please). You may make or print the card yourself. (The cards were generally about the size of a modern day business card.)

b - One small giftie - an individually wrapped teabag, a little charm or some small passementrie you think your partner might enjoy.

c -One note to say hello.

This should be inexpensive to mail and fun to receive so I hope you'll all join in. Please contact me if you have questions and feel free to post links to samples of calling cards you may find on the net.

If you all enjoy this swap, I'd like to do it again with more partners. It's such fun to collect calling cards from friends.

I am really excited about this one! I have loved the idea of calling cards since reading about Laura Ingalls Wilder's name cards in "Little Town on the Prairie." I have already set to designing mine.

Wonderful!! I used to exchange calling cards regularly with the tea group I was a part of, I keep them in a little wrought iron fan that is made to display photographs. I love them!

My calling card for swapping is a 4 1/8 X 5 1/5, the size of a small greeting card. I hope that is okay. However, it is a pretty calling card if I must say so myself. I wanted to make a new personal calling card to use when swapping and this swap inspired me to do so. I'm looking forward to hearinf what you think of it.

Cheers,

Le Papillon Vert

The information I have found thus far says that Victorian calling cards were around 6 centimeters x 9 centimeters, roughly the size of a business card so that sounds quite large. However, you can check with your partner and see if they have any objection to receiving a large card.

That should say partners rather than partner, sorry.

Okay, I'll try to make a smaller version.
