Description:

I've enjoyed making and receiving tip-ins, so I thought I'd start another swap.

You will make one 4" x 4 1/2" tip-in for each of your two partners. The extra 1/2" is to leave room to bind the pages together into a book.

For this swap your tip-in should have a reference to time.

This is an international swap for swappers with a rating of at least 4, and no more than one no-send. Newbies with completed profiles are also welcome.

May I ask a silly question. I'm new to swap-bot and have never heard of a tip-in. I tried googling it and all I got was something about basketball which I am equally as clueless about.

What is a tip-in?

Thanks!

Lisa Vollrath has a great article on her Go Make Something site. You must register (free) to read it. Her site is great. http://www.gomakesomething.com/content/view/47/2/

The origin of the word "tip-in" comes from old bookprinting where they couldn't print color pictures, and they had to be added in after the book was printed--they were usually glued in by one edge and that tip was attached to the edge of the pages, or "tipped in". Nowadays it refers to pages that are created separate to be added into an altered book, or a handbound art book. They can be any size or shape or medium(s) and often, as in a swap like this, they are sized and themed for a particular predetermined book.

thanks ChristineMM and twobluecrows for the specifics

perhaps my use of the term "tip-in" isn't in it's true form. My thoughts with this swap and others like it (there is also another host that lists 4x4 tip-ins) is to create a book from the tip-ins you receive.

Of course, if someone has a 4x4 book to use, all the better.

IS the back of the page left blank?

squintgrad 07/ 8/2007 #

sometimes yes, sometimes no

for the purposes of this swap - yes

Since the title of this swap is 4x4 tip in.....could my parnters please make them that size? SINCE I have a book that size that I will be added them to! Thanks~jakfrostwife

I'm unclear as to why they'd be any other size than 4 x 4. Is is necessary to specify size? If so I, too, want the 4x4 (well... 4 x 4.5)?

Lily Lemon~

Some people like only 4 x 4 and other's like the 4 x 4.5 cause they like the "frame of the tipin as 4x4"...

I just like all my little gems to sit in the book that I bound them with at the same depth, so 4x4 works for me!

It's all personal....I guess....Jakfrostwife

Oh, I see! I want mine 4x4.5 --.5 inch margin for binding at left. thanks!
