ABC: Multi-media Card Collaboration

For this swap, we can "up-cycle" either poker-sized playing cards or recycled paperboard (i.e. cereal or cracker box that’s been cut down into universal ATC sizing standards). If the playing cards are too flimsy, you will need to adhere more than one card together for increased sturdiness.

Of course, cards made of sturdy watercolor paper, paperboard, or cover stock are always welcome too! Our group home page says 140lb/300gsm as a minimum suggested paper weight. But you’re welcome to use something sturdier if you’d like to.

  • Starter Set Backgrounds will have at least 2 different techniques applied. In the video (link above) she uses three techniques: painting, stamping, and bits of book page collaged onto each card.

  • If opting to upcycle playing cards, at least one corner of each card (where the number and/or suit is printed) may remain partially visible (like with a transparent tissue covering). It will be the sender's choice. Please include a note to let your buddy know if it's okay to obscure that corner when you send your starters.

  • Focal images in this video were stamped onto a piece of gelli-plate print and then fussy-cut out to create a centerpiece. That’s just an idea. We are free to create ours or send whatever our craft stash allows.

Focal images, accents, and/or embellishments should be sent loose (not affixed) with the set, to allow your buddy to place them on once they’ve made their additions.

- Remember to include your User ID, the Swap Title, and a return address label or SASE

  • Upon receipt of your Starter Set, your partner will rate a 5 for creating the set based on the swap details mentioned above and on our group’s Home page (accurate size & sturdy/firm backers)

  • You’ll finish both cards by adding 2-3 items/techniques to each card, and sign/date the back (or add an address label). Then return one (1) completed card back to the original artist via snail mail!

NOTE: Please respect your buddy's privacy by not trading these cards outside of the group without first removing their address label or obscuring their personal information off the back.

According to the US Dept. of Labor, PII is Personal Identifiable Information (PII) defined as information that directly identifies an individual (e.g., name, address, telephone number, email address, etc.) Additionally, information permitting the physical or online contacting of a specific individual is the same as personally identifiable information.

There’s a 30-business day timeline to “work” on this set of artistic card collaborations.

However, if you’re going to need longer, please let your partner know by sending them a direct message.

Feel free to use the discussion section below to let your partner know when you’ve put their “homer” card in the mail! Or you can post a comment directly on their profile page.

My hope is that this will be a fun way to collaborate on some amazing mixed-media cards! 😉 💙🍪🎵~ CookieMOMster

This is another Youtube artist’s take on the upcycled ATC movement (just a bit slower)

This Artists’ Fulldeck Challenge is another idea for simple yet beautiful mixed-media techniques to try on our ATC/APCs
