Description:

"Let's wreck it!" as Ralph says! :)

This swap will be International and you'll have 1 partner. If anyone wants a US only or other regional swap, please contact me. This will be a type 3 journal swap, and you'll have 30 days to complete and send the journal.

So, what do you do? Why, you wreck a journal, of course!
Keri Smith has a series of journals with prompts, ideas, suggestions, fill in the blanks and such that can be quite a bit of fun to play with. For this swap, we will be using some of her ideas to make our own journal that we also wreck or destroy. Then we'll send it off to our partner. You do not have to purchase one of her books to do this swap (but you can if you wish - I've found some really inexpensive as 'used' books with only 1-2 pages done, so it works well!). This can be expensive to mail. But! You may wait until after partners are assigned to see where you will be sending to, and then opt to use a lightweight journal to destroy, or make your own booklet to save on postage. I want this to be fun, I hope lots will join, but I also don't want to break the bank for anyone (myself included!)

Description and requirements:

For this swap, you will use a notebook or journal of some sort - 5x7 or larger, with a minimum of 20 pages for entries. You can use both sides of the page, as long as one side doesn't bleed through or damage the other. You can buy a new one, make your own (as long as it is well made and will hold together), or re purpose an old notebook/journal. The notebook MUST have a cover, and NO SPIRAL BOOKS!

On the inside cover, list the swap name, and your swap-bot ID. Be sure to do this!

Then ...

Choose at least 20 topics from a Wreck This Journal, and list one on each page, then wreck the page. You can choose any 20 pages from any of the WTJ books or websites, or come up with your own ideas on the same theme. You can certainly do more if you wish.

The pages need to stay in the binding, but tear, cut, etc as much as you wish. I'll include some ideas, but if you need more, please ask, and I'll list some more. You Tube and Pintrest seem to have lots of options, if you are looking for ideas, too. Google images has some ideas, too, if you are feeling stumped.

Avoid adding items that will make the pages sticky, as it may attract insects, or make it difficult for your partner to look at your journal. If you add a page where you pour coffee, wine, etc on the page, please be sure it is fully dry so as no to harm the other pages.

If you need ideas, you can check HERE or HERE You may also use the lists as inspiration for your own topics, just be sure to list the topic at the top of each page.

You can start on this at any time, or wait until partners are assigned, but be sure you can mail by the deadline!

If you have any questions, please send me a PM - I'm lousy about remembering to check the comments section below, and I'll probably miss your question.

If you wish to share links for inspiration that you've found, please feel free to do so below.

For those (like me!) who struggle with 'destroying a book', please note that you can use a small notebook or even staple or stitch pages together to make a booklet that you will then 'destroy'.

But you need not actually destroy or wreck anything. Some of the pages in my book are items like "draw a continuous line that covers the page" or "write backwards" and so on. If you have questions or want ideas, please PM me. I'll help guide you with some ideas. :) It CAN be fun, and not destructive. :)

Another thought! If you've wanted to experiment with making your own journals, this is an excellent time to try it out! You can make some journals from used envelopes (I get a LOT of junk mail, so I started re-using as much as I can!) and I think that would be a great style for this swap.

Also, I've seen some You Tube videos on making a journal out of new envelopes, and tucking items into the pockets - I could see that working for this swap as well. Maybe make a smaller booklet with a few of the challenges and tucking that into one of the envelope pockets? If you're like me and struggling with destroying a book, this might be the answer. I"m looking forward to this set up, and hope to host it semi-regularly if there is enough interest.
