Description:

Paint ONE 6x4 watercolor landscape for ONE partner. Can be monochromatic or as many colors as you like. Experienced watercolorists are welcome. I'm a beginner myself and sometimes need the commitment of a swap to get out my paints.

If you are new to landscapes and don't know how to get started (like me), Frank Clarke's free lesson is terrific. My landscape above is a cross between his lesson and a personal photo.

Please either write on back of painting or include in a note 1) what type of paper you used (cold press, hot press) 2) whether you used tube or pan paints. Any other information you'd like to share would be great.

Rating of at least 4.8. No no-sends in last 6 months. Must have logged in during the week previous to the swap.

Please PM me with any questions.

I have this on watch. I have become comfortable in doing landscapes in oils and acrylics but have never done one in watercolor. I just know if I am brave enough to try. The ratings scare me. Waaa Waaa Waaa

Hi, Angie. If you can borrow a Frank Clarke DVD or book on watercolor from your local library, you're half way there. I'm not sure why the ratings scare you - you have a perfect five. Do you mean you're anxious about being rated for watercolors? Personally, I nearly always give hearts to people who paint or draw their swaps because I figure they've stepped out of their comfort zone - I feel they've put their heart into it! I view cut-out-ready-made-images-and-paste-'em-on type cards differently and I give out hearts less freely.

I guess I have a perfect five because I worry about the ratings so much and I have never been treated unfairly by another swapper.

Ok, I guess I will sign up because I want to learn to do this too.

Thanks for joining, Angie! I wouldn't have tackled something like this if I hadn't found Frank Clarke's DVD - "Simply Painting" Watercolors for Beginners at my local library. If you have Netflix you can also rent the DVD from them. That way you can paint along with him - I'm going to wear out the pause button on my DVD remote! He made it so approachable!

I am really excited about this swap, are there going to be others in the series? Like flowers?

blackeyedsusan 11/10/2008 #

I love flowers. I have several ideas and a flower theme is one of them.

Watercolor is my first love but I have been putting my paints aside recently for other crafts. I am willing to give it a try again. Joanne

Thank you so much for providing us with the tutorial. I just watched it and it really is a simple, easy to understand, lesson for beginners.

Thanks for posting these, RachelB. These are both gorgeous. I love the flowers (poppies?) you used in the foreground. I hope AngieTheArtist won't be disappointed in my watercolor.

It seems mine might be lost in the post - damn damn
