Let's make merit badges! Here's a how-to:

https://blog.etsy.com/en/2013/how-tuesday-make-a-merit-badge/

You can embroider, cross stitch, add a tiny crochet whatnot, etc. Just make sure you're using whatever base (fabric, felt, aida) and stitching onto it somehow. Make sure to have finished edges, no fraying. Read your partner's profile to send them a badge they would enjoy receiving. Only one partner for this project. Make it super cool!

Size: Let's keep them at a max of 2" in any direction. You have a little wiggle room and are welcome to do circular, oval, rectangle, etc.

This is international. Do not sign up if you cannot ship internationally. To keep costs down, you may omit the pin on the back. Regular stamp within US and $1.20 to ship from US to anywhere else.

No one under 4.9. I can angel after you've given your partner a 1. Flakers suck so don't be one. Furthermore, this is my first host, but I'll be checking the ever-loving crap out of everyone's profiles and decide accordingly.

UPDATE: There will be the Embroidered Merit Badge #2 Swap in the group "Beginner's Cross Stitch". If you are interested, please join the group and keep on keepin' on with the badges! #2 will start at the middle of September. There will be another public one around the beginning of October.

Looking forward to this!! I've run a few of these swaps and always seem to have trouble finding people to sign up. I hope you gets lots of interest! These are so cute and you can never have too many:)

JennyLoo 08/21/2015 #

I wasn't sure how many would be interested, but they're SO ADORABLE!!!. There were 3 of us....now 2. Well, we'll see what happens I guess!

This is adorable, but I am new to embroidery and would need to purchase a small hoop and practice some stitches before I would feel comfortable sending work to someone else. If you make another swap like this in a couple months I will be game. Feels like a good winter activity.

This is different than any swap I've done since I did puzzle pieces (anyone ever do those? not sure why I ever did!!) -I'm game, so add me to the list!

lolita 08/21/2015 #

Great swap! I'm so excited for this :)

Hollylovesmail - I'm sending you a PM! I'm new to embroidery too. That's why I added in that you could cross stitch, etc.

Karen - puzzle pieces?!?!? I love puzzles! Is it the same kind of idea?

Just wanted to add that the hardest part about swapping for me is the signing up and having to wait and wait and wait to find out who my partner is! Haha!

Also, these don't have to be done exactly like in the tutorial. That was an example. Feel free to express yourself!

This looks like so much fun! I can't wait to get my partner assignment so I can get started!

CraftyJodie 08/24/2015 #

I was just looking at these online and was going to make some for myself!!

Found this store on Etsy for more ideas! https://www.etsy.com/listing/204337092/nature-collector-lover-merit-badge-hand

I was thinking of incorporating needle felting. The possibilities!

Hi all! I realized I may have not given enough time for a handmade, profile-based swap, so I extended to 3 weeks! Let me know if that still isn't enough, but I think it should be. I'm new to this.

Hi sorry about this but i am coming back here after a long absence. I forgot to update my address until today. Whoever has me please check to make sure my address is starting with 403. thanks!

featheredneststudio 08/31/2015 #

Quick question: Should we finish these by sewing a pin backing on or leave them with a plain finished back for our recipient to do what they choose with their badges?

JennyLoo 09/ 1/2015 #

It's up to you. I put that it could be left off for shipping purposes. You're welcome to message your partner to see what they prefer.

JennyLoo 09/ 1/2015 #

Dawnturtle, if you go to the place where you rate your partner for this swap, you can click on their name and message them. Not everyone reads these, and that would insure they get the correct address. :)
