Description:

I noticed this one was done back in August last year, and I thought it would be a nice thing to do it again. For those of us who think heaven is a nice hot cuppa and some time to read a magazine… This is an international swap, send 1 partner a sheet/page or article from a magazine (any language), and a teabag/coffee sachet (or any hot drink). Just a quick, fun swap. Everyone welcome. Post any questions or preferences below, but just remember, we want to keep it easy and simple. Thanks!

Someone asked if it has a to be an original magazine page or could they use a photocopy if they don't want to rip their magazine up. I think that's fine as long as it's a good quality colour photocopy.

user5526 01/ 8/2007 #

What a lovely idea. Can I just mention that please make sure that the mag article I get be in English? Also that the tea I receive is wheat/gluten free? Thanks :)

DianeM 01/ 8/2007 #

Iis it ok to fold the article, or do we need to mail in a large envelope? TIA. Smiles, DianeM :)

AngelFaeryKathleen 01/ 8/2007 #

Hi all, if I get to choose I'm a coffee head or a herbal tea drinker, Thanks. Last time I was sent a "wild sweet orange" tea from +azo it was yummy and try as I might I cannot buy it in New Zealand - hint hint hint.

drewzel 01/ 8/2007 #

I think neatly folded is fine, as it's international, so we don't want everyone to spend too much on postage. :) It's just the old rule, send something that you'd be happy to receive.

user3740 01/ 8/2007 #

This might seem like I'm picking on Nellbe but I really don't mean to. It's just that she brings up two things that have piqued my interest.

1) In many parts of the world magazines in English are outrageously expensive. Even though I am a native English speaker I now live in Sweden and all of the magazines I have are in Swedish because the ones I would normally buy for $2-3 in the States are more than $10 here. I have given up on them and only buy magazines in English on visits to English-speaking countries. I can therefore guarantee that my partner will get a page in Swedish, as I would expect that the page I get will be in the language of where it is sent from.

2) What is gluten-free tea? I know that sounds like a stupid question since it is obviously tea without gluten, but what is the gluten part of tea to begin with? I've never seen "gluten-free" on a box of tea bags so if I get someone with allergies I don't want to make them sick so what other clues do I look for that a tea is gluten-free?

Again, I don't mean to pick on Nellbe. I'm just curious.

Thanks! CP

user5526 01/ 9/2007 #

Thanks CP for your questions. If sending something in Swedish is easier then please do so... these hints are just those - hints. I just thought if I said English then it may help the person that gets me... just trying to make their life easier.

Sorry for the assumption that you knew what gluten free means. Some tea has additives that are have wheat/barley/malt/oats/rye in them and this is what gluten is. Some in tea in Australia does... of course not all countries may do that.

Hope that helps :)

drewzel 01/ 9/2007 #

CP, good point about the expense of o/s magazines. I know if I buy American ones in Australia they can cost over $10! So if that's a problem, maybe pick your page with lots of gorgeous pics rather than text, and maybe even a bit of a translation for the reader... that's sort of a nice idea too, as it makes it more personal.

Yeah, some people get really really sick from anything with gluten in it, so I think it makes sense for Nellbe to mention that. Just do your best for your partner, is all we can ask. :)

user3740 01/10/2007 #

Oh I totally understand about people having reactions to gluten, I had just never heard of it in tea before and wanted to know what to look for since I had never seen "gluten-free" on a box of tea bags before. No worries. :)

mnsqb 01/10/2007 #

I love all sorts of tea but due to allergies need to avoid any thing with critic acid in it. As an American I'd prefer an article in english - but wouldn't mind at all getting one in another language. It may just be me but I think it would be kind of fun to translate a short (hint if it is another language) article in another language.

ktsmurf 01/10/2007 #

Hi all. I'd like to request no coffee for me as it gives me migraines. Any tea is great though (or chocolate, or cider). As to languages, I'm fine with anything. I'm fluent in english, and can read a bit of french or spanish, but would welcome any new thing to read.

Ruthy 01/10/2007 #

Hi all!

I read English, French, Spanish, Italian and Hebrew but if your article is in another language, please try to find one with nice pictures! : )

Any kind of tea is fine for me.

lauraj78 01/10/2007 #

Hi :) I'm quite new & I've been in one other swap but haven't got any feedback score yet! I hope that's ok?

lauraj78 01/10/2007 #

PS-Any kind of tea is ok for me. I love trying new ones :) Regarding the article I'm English but I can also read French & bits of Italian, Spanish & German. If not those, I like the ideal of translating a new language that I don't know!

user5650 01/10/2007 #

Hi people, this sounds like my idea of heaven.

I don't mind coffee or tea, or what language my article comes in.

Look forward to receiving my swap partner.

drewzel 01/11/2007 #

If people are loving this, I'll run another same swap in February too...

janeausten 01/11/2007 #

Hi everyone, I love all kinds of coffee and tea so any type is good with me. as for the article i know a little french and spanish but i'll take any language you want to send. i love the idea of getting something in a language other than english even if i cant read it. :)

user5063 01/12/2007 #

i can't wait to do this one- i'm secretly hoping for something i get the chance to have a new exposure to a new culture/language/flavors.. oh my gosh- i can't believe those prices (silly!) i think it'd be fun to see examples from different places whether its in english or not, translation is available! hehe.. i know some italian and spanish, and bits of french and arabic.. it'll be fun wherever this comes from, just the excitement of mail even. this is my second attempt at a swap. i hope this actually happens, because in my first swap(december birthdays), i didn't receive anything :'( i was discouraged for a while, but alas, my hope has returned.. let the fun begin! :)

Chinita 01/12/2007 #

I start my day with a cup of tea--mostly regular, but lately I've been trying different flavors. Pomegrante...it was good. Any tea is good for me. English article is preferred.

user5113 01/12/2007 #

Ok if my page is not in english can it have some good pictures on it. And no coffee for me I like herbal teas and love cocoa. This is a good swap got lots of participants.

nifwlseirff 01/12/2007 #

I'd love anything in Japanese to stretch my translation skills ;> I don't drink decaf or ginger.

dimanche 01/12/2007 #

Please no coffee for me. I don't care what language I get :)

blytheswideshut 01/13/2007 #

I would LOVE love love the magazine piece to be in another language! It would be so interesting to see how other countries lay out their magazines, the types of ads they have and what their written language looks like.

Of course anything in English is great, because then I'll be able to read it!

Coffee is best, hot chocolate or similar is great, and I'll give any teas that come my way a go...!

user5484 01/13/2007 #

loved the idea :)

Liseanne27 01/14/2007 #

This sounds like such a great swap. While English is my primary language, I can read a little French, and am learning Japanese. I also LOVE coffee, tea is great too. Can't wait!

niecedenise 01/15/2007 #

I cant read or speak anything but American english, but i dont care if its another language. Maybe it will inspire me to learn something else. Tea , coffee herbals I dont care, even ones for iced tea. I do hot and cold all the year round.

niecedenise 01/15/2007 #

EmilyBemily 01/16/2007 #

I'm a native English speaker and am currently learning French and need to practice my Spanish. If I am to receive a magazine article in a language other than what I know, I would love one that includes tons o' pretty pictures. I also love to try new teas. Thanks! :)

user3614 01/17/2007 #

Hello all! This is a great idea for a swap!

I'm a tea lover (anything but oolong - it gives me hives for some reason) but coffee, cocoa or cider are great as well. As for an article, anything goes! I read English and German but anything would be cool to get. It would be even cooler if it was some sort of crafting article. :)

That brings my question into play... does it matter what the article is about? Just something that is listed in our partner's profile or just a nice article?

wollbindung 01/18/2007 #

hi all,

funny idea! i like black and green teas ( please no herbal ones - i´m allergic to those) and i´m looking forward for the article ( about something you like? would like to share--- i love crafting, traveling and a lot of other things!). i understand english, german, french, italian.... enjoy yourself! kiki

holmesgal 01/18/2007 #

Hi everyone this is for my partner to read I love Teas all sorts of Teas.So I like pretty much of anything - except a few that I CAN'T have:

But there are 2 things that I CANNOT have due to health issues NO CAFFEINE NOTHING WITH HONEY IN IT - I am allergic to Honey (watch the Chai teas sometimes they have Honey in them) When in doubt look at the ingredients on the box

Other than that I can have pretty much of anything

I can't wait for this to start :) This is going to be fun!

user5681 01/18/2007 #

I will take anything! I can't wait! What a fun theme for a swap!

user4010 01/19/2007 #

How fun! I like all hot drinks, and I can only read in English, but I don't care what language the article is in :-)

user5504 01/19/2007 #

I have to say I think this is a fun little swap to participate in. But please understand that I am not going to sift through all of the above posts to see what someone might be requesting. If you are posting a specific request on your gift and I don't see it (and I receive your name) please don't be upset with me.

hopeevey 01/19/2007 #

I'm working on the idea that if I get sent something I can't use, than I can find someone else who can use it - which is a cool thing, too, in my mind.

hanjiwest 01/19/2007 #

Any language is fine for me...Any tea is also ok! I enjoy getting surprised! This sounds like a fine, rocking swap!!!!!!

drewzel 01/19/2007 #

It's up to you, you can sift through your partner's comments and look at their profile, or you can just send whatever you like. The element of surprise you get with a swap is often a lot of fun!

Thanks everyone for joining in :)

Tink 01/19/2007 #

Hi all! This looks like it's going to be a nice swap! Hopefully, I'll receive the article in English. Unfortunately, I don't speak any other language. I'll be happy to receive any subject! I like to learn new things. I love nature magazines, travel, history, art and knitting, if you need a hint :) I love all teas, so I can't wait to see what arrives!

user5484 01/20/2007 #

:) I received today the name of my partner... I'll send my favourite tea and a portuguese magazine... :)

abbehope 01/20/2007 #

If I can wish for something I would prefer tea :) I also speak norwegian, english, german, spanish and a little french but I would love an article in any language... (I love languages I don't understand, like f.ex. japanese!)

user5407 01/20/2007 #

I would prefer chocolate or coffee for my drink (: And as for the article, anything in Japanese, French, English, or Chinese will be fine!

user5484 01/21/2007 #

Hi there! I just prepared my envelope... I'm sending a bag of my favourite tea (green) and a portuguese article that talks about some of the most important portugueses in the history

(sorry if my english isn't so good)

kiss

Zanara 01/21/2007 #

This may be a litlle late but I can't drink caffeine, so a chocolate or decaf tea would be lovely. Thank you.

holmesgal 01/22/2007 #

You might want to go thru the posts if you get someones name just IN CASE they maybe allergic to something so maybe it is a good idea to look at them :) I know I am allergic to Honey and some others can't have certain things to - just a suggestion it is best to look for your partners post even if you don't want to

mapps 01/22/2007 #

taia 01/30/2007 #

user5648 01/30/2007 #

To Airidane: Thanks so much! I received my tea and article yesterday :) I promptly put some water on to boil and got ready to enjoy a few relaxing moments reading the article you sent me. And... Laurina (lob), in the USA, i've already sent your envelope (you're my swap friend again...! :) ). I hope you like it!

wildflowertea 01/30/2007 #

To My Massachusetts partner: Thank you. This is my first swap-bot swap. This generous selection of teas you picked are great. How did you know I love Chai? The envelope and Eco-tips are very clever. Frugality and creativity make my life interesting. The article about Edie Sedgwick brought back memories of art and life in the 60's and 70's.

EspressoBrown 02/ 1/2007 #

Rebecca -- I was finally able to get your package out on the 26th. It turned into a box instead of an envelope, but will be coming by air so hope it doesn't take too long to get there!
