Description:

One of my favourite things about receiving postcards is hearing something about the sender, which is what inspired me to create this swap.

Here's the idea: for each swap, I will provide a writing prompt or idea, which you will consider when sending your postcard to your swap partner. This prompt might bring up a memory, a feeling or even a conversation that you overheard today in the grocery store. You're free to write as much or as little as you like, as long as it in some way relates to the prompt.

This weeks prompt: Write about the meaning of your first name, middle name or the history/ land of origin of your last name. You might also know the story as to why your parents chose it for you (family traditions, special significance, etc)

Postcards should be chosen with consideration towards the receivers preferences; whether you send your cards naked (without an envelope) or in an envelope is completely up to the sender.

Newbies are welcome with well-filled out profiles.

I will be checking participants profiles and ratings thoroughly before assigning partners; please note that if you are currently showing as late on any swaps I will request that you follow through on those before participating in this swap. I have also placed a fairly high automatic rating requirement on this swap in an effort to encourage a safe and fun swapping experience for us all.

If writing on a postcard why would someone want it in envelope?

arianneroxa 09/24/2013 #

@ladydy5 Some people collect the stamps from postcards, and so removing stamps from an envelope would be much easier than removing them from a postcard (and potentially damaging it).

Another reason might be that people prefer their postcards to arrive in pristine condition. Postcards send "naked" (or without an envelope) can get bent, marked by postal sorting equipment, affected by weather or otherwise damaged cosmetically. Honestly, I love seeing the journey of my cards, which is why I always ask that they are sent without an envelope.

Great question! Please do let me know if I can answer any others for you. :)

I would love to do this, but can't this time around. I hope you offer it again!

arianneroxa 09/26/2013 #

@Rhino44 I will be running this swap with a new theme each time, and have been thinking about doing a sort of "writers choice" from our previously covered prompts at some point in the near future. I will make a note of your name, and would love to have you join us for it.

I was wondering what is meant by the postcards should be chosen with consideration to the receiver's preference. Does that mean it needs to be profile based?

ladydy5 10/ 2/2013 #

Thank u so much for answering my question.

arianneroxa 10/ 3/2013 #

@topekagal66601 I think that since we each only have one partner assigned, a profile-based postcard shouldn't prove to be too challenging. :)

@ladydy5 no problem-- I'm always happy to try to answer questions.

What a great idea for postcard swapping! I hope you will continue the writing prompt swaps.

ChelseaLake 10/ 6/2013 #

I agree. These are great swaps, @arianneroxa I love hearing something interesting from my partner.

@RaineyDay and @ChelseaLake I'm so glad that you're both enjoying these swaps! I will definitely be continuing these every month, and hope to see you both in future rounds. :)
