About Me

Right now? I'm an American-born Asian kid who puts hot dogs in her fried rice and egg rolls in the toaster. I've traveled too much and now I just want to stay still, hang out, and be there. I'm a homebody, but I feel like most anywhere in the world could be home to me.

I was born in Maryland. My family is a sweet blend of Lao, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and French- you can't find all of these in me, but I am influenced by all of it. I've lived in the US, New Zealand, Cambodia and Scotland.

I'm a Buddhist, but if you.. really really want to send me something to do with your religion, I won't be offended. I can't promise I'll care.

Favorite Crafts

Knitting, Quilting, Crocheting, Cross-stitch, Embroidery, Spinning, Jewelry making.

It's weird to just list these as if they are no big deal, when in fact I love making things with my hands and I always have! I have moved a lot in the past few years and it's even something I always consider: Where will my sewing machine go? Where will I put my yarn?

I'm not very picky when it comes to supplies for this craft, except I lean more away from man-made materials such as acrylic. I don't mind blends, like elastic and nylon with wool in a sock yarn, but I haven't knit with acrylic yarn in a long time.

I like pretty much all colors. If I get a color I don't like, I'll just make it into something and give it to someone who does, or I will learn to love it (very easy).

I love tiny fussy cut (or not fussy cut!) pieces of fabric and short pieces of ribbon.

Favorite Hobbies

Other than crafts, I like to: read, go rock climbing, go snowboarding, dance, sleep, study biology, bake and cook.

I bake a lot of bread.

I love reading blogs.

I like cleaning up my little apartment and organizing and finding clever new uses for things (I'm pretty much Martha Stewart and Real Simple Magazines, only clueless and poor).

Favorite Books

I worked in a library for three years of college! Lots of reading. I like Tom Clancy, but I haven't been as into the military novel recently. I like medical thrillers (I'm a biology student!) and forensic science/crime novels like Kathy Reichs' works. I also like short stories. I like the Divina Commedia and I am often interested in foreign novels even if I don't end up enjoying them. It takes a lot for me to actually put a book down and not finish it. I read very fast.

I like books related to my hobbies, even if I'm picky about buying them myself- they have to be way discounted or particularly inspiring to me. I don't own a lot of knitting pattern books- there is so much free online! But it's not that I don't like them.

Favorite Television

I'll include movies here: I like comedy and not horror. I tend to like foreign films and I love black and whites and silents. My favorite silent film is Piccadilly. I love the old classics, but I also haven't disliked a single Pixar movie.

Just like my books, I like period dramas and forensic crime shows. I like Animal Cops- like shows, and pretty much everything on Discovery and Food Network. I watch a LOT of Food Network lately. My favorite food shows are No Reservations, Iron Chef and Iron Chef America, Good Eats, and Charm City Cakes. I also love the animated Paddington Bear, the Simpsons, Bones, NCIS, Tool Academy, My Neighbor Totoro, and Kogepan.

Random Likes

Cupcakes. Bamboo. Scallop Prints. Pom-poms. Twill tape. Deco tape. Glitter. Cephalopods. Microbiology. Traditional clothing. Zakka. Pressed pennies- the ones that go through machines and come out all flattened with an image stamped on them. Trees and Leaves. Castles (I went to Arcadia University). Suitcases. Monograms- even if it's not my initials. Whiskey. Dachshunds. Hair accessories- I have a lot of hair! Applique, because I rarely have the patience for it.

Random Dislikes

Centipedes and millipedes. Bugs preserved, pinned, and framed in boxes. Clowns. 1980's neon. Cigarette smoke. Licorice/anise flavor.

Extra Stuff!

Do you have a journal or notebook you don't want/need? Even a composition book would be cool. I've started saving up scrap to make one but I can't seem to waste enough paper, haha! And it probably wouldn't be sturdy. I just want something to write recipes in and start a cookbook! I could also use a new journal. I have just put off buying one because I'd rather it be recycled paper, but moreover, I know there are so many unused, unloved journals out there!

Comment: Hello, Claudia! Thank you so much for your answers to the questions in the HAPPY EMAILL #1 - 100 QUESTIONS. I found your answers were nice and descriptive, not just YES and NO answers. I feel I got to know you a little. You are very young (I could be your mother!) but you seem to have a good grasp on life and a mature attitude. I only hope that Dan treats you REAL good!!! I just worry because I was young once and I had a boyfriend who made me feel like I was never good enough at anything. I was always at fault. I just got the sense that that may be happening with you... I'm sorry to be so... I should mind my own business! Thanks again! You are very insightful!!! :)
Response: Thank you for reading my answers and saying I seem to have a good grasp on life! And thanks for your concern- but Dan does treat me very well, we just have our rough moments like anyone else. & we're young and poor and that's not so easy. but thanks for the advice :)

Comment: Loved your answsers--fun to read them! I laughed out loud at the Nostradamus comment. Smiled at the Morton Salt girl Halloween costume too--a neighbor girl 3 doors down came to our door last 10/31 as that annoying girl Flo from whatever insurance company it is -- she looked so much like her it was hilarious! Oh, and don't feel bad--neither me or my other two partners had no idea about James Steele either--maybe he's the swap coordinator's boyfriend or something!

Comment: haha i work at a grocery store & i hate those carts that are squeeky! we have mini carts for kids and they are in dire need of wd-40!! ahhhh!
Response: There is a squeaky door at the library of my University- this is the biggest library on campus and it's a pretty used door. I kind of want to sneak some wd-40 over!
