About Me

Hi My name is Sandi. I am very new to swap-bot.

My first love is poetry, and over the years I have incorporated altered art into my poetry in the mediums of collage, quilt wall hangings, photography, and shadow boxes. The creations are very textured and raw finished. I love the look of imperfection as opposed to trying to be perfect and too well planned. I create as the spirit within leads me. Most of my art is gifted to others as a way of blessing it forward. My vision for 2011 is to create poetic art and send it out into the world, again, as a blessing it forward.

Favorite Music

I love classic rock and roll, country and Rocking Christian, 3rd Day is my favorite group!!!

Favorite Television

I really don't watch too much TV, I probably watch too much of youtube

Favorite Crafts

I absolutely love to write poetry and create gifts of art in the forms of collage, photography, altered art, shadowboxes, and quilt wall hangings.
I always marry the poetry and art. It's a joy to create and an even greater joy to gift these creations to others!!!!!!!!!!! My creations are authentic and have an imperfection. I actually am working on a vision called The Art of Imperfection!!!! For too many years of my life I tried to be too perfect and found out it wasn't a healthy lifestyle. In 1997 I lost my entire left leg to bone cancer, and soon found out that all though I may not look perfect in the eyes of the world, The Lord loves me no matter what!!!!! I have survived when there was only a 2% chance of survival, so I am thrilled to be alive and living a life of creativity inspired by the Holy Spirit within me!!!

Inspiration and Incidentals !

My all time favorite color is turquiose. In 1963 I was a flower girl and our dresses were the color turquoise and it has been a love affair ever since. I even wrote a very long poem about the color and what it has done for my life. someday I will post it. My inspiration for my poetry comes from many places, but primarily the main inspiration comes from "snippets or phrases" that I either hear from other conversations, (No, I am not an eavesdropper!! :) or phrases that come into my head unexpectdly. For instance one day the words "Lullaby Pillow" came out of no where, and thus was birthed a poem for my youngest daughter about the seasons of her life!!!! Also, I am deeply inspired and moved by the innocense of little kids, and how literal they are, so I do find myself always immersed in the wisdom of these little creatures!!! I can't wait to be a grandma, but for now, I have "on loan" grandkids through dear friends!!!! I had been in the practice of writing poetry and then creating the art, but lately I have stepped out of my comfort zone, and have created collages, altered art, etc first and then feel led to write poetry.
I also am so passionate about fabric and where the design leads me to create.
I live in a warm coastal town, so the mystery of the ocean is another passion of mine!!! and I spend as much time as life allows me to be there and just drink in the loveliness!!!!
If I were to say what do I collect it would be anything turquoise, especially fabric of all kinds of this lovely color. I guess the other catalyst of my love for turquiose was when I was given my first box of 64 Crayolas and happened upon the lovely, "blue-green" I felt as though I could conquer the world through my "art" during my tender years before judgement came across my then reality. I can even remember being intoxicated by the smell. Having said that I have now been blessed to recapture the love affair with turquoise through art and not let others' opinions stifle my creativity!!!! I also collect earrings, especially if their handcrafted, with all the colors of the ocean, sunsets, and sparkly or irridescent!!!! Love, love, love handmade journals to paint poetry in them and gift them out to people!!!! I just love the whole idea of giving people something when they least expect it and also something that comes from deep within my soul!!! I hope that explains just a bit more about me.

About Me

My favorite season of all time is summer, but since I live in a very warm climate, I am in summer most of the time!!!!!!!! My all time favorite poet is Ralph Fletcher, he is a children's poet/author. His poetry is about real life, and he has taught poetry workshops all over the country in city schools since the early 70s when schools were looking to introduce more of the arts in a somewhat regimented influence of academia. It was such a huge success that it spread quickly and made its way into juvenile detention centers for at risk youths. The goal was to give kids the freedom to express themselves creatively. (too bad I went to parochial school in the 70s!!!! :) Perhaps the most treasured gift I have received in my life was from my youngest daughter on the 9th anniversary of surviving cancer. It is a white gold filligree heart. BTW, filigree is quite the intrigue, I love the mystery of the path they take, and where it can lead me on this journey called life!!!!!!!!!!

I also love an eclectic style in clothing, furniture, jewelry. I am not a tradtionalist at all. My home is made up of mosaics, whimsy, and a bit of vintage!!!!!
I love taking bus trips all over the place, and have traveled by car and bus across a good part of the country, esp the eastern seaboard!!!! Well, I think I've given a pretty good intro to who I am as a playful, poignant, poet and artist!!!

one more thing!!

I do want to mention something I am very proud of. I belong Operation Write Home. We design cards and leave the insides blank. They are sent to the troops, who then in turn can send them to their loved ones back home.
It is one of the best organizations I have ever belonged to!!! So little effort on my part compared to what our troops are doing for us. It's not about political views on the wars, it's about the people willing to sacrifice their lives for my freedom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comment: Dear Sandi, Thank you for the lovely comment. I have a chance to view your profile and I love your idea about imperfection. I always feel overly bothered if i somehow messed up my art eg. dropped some paint over it. Life also is not picture perfect but the small mistakes is what completes the bigger picture, right?
Response: You are so very welcome!!!! If it were not for mistakes we would have no reason to continue to try!!!!!

Comment: Sandi Thank you for the wonderful comment! I find the spectrum of life with autism can be enlightening :) I definitely inspires me. Thank you. happy swapping!
Response: I am so very glad that you can see the bright side of what can sometimes be a very frustrating and frightening situation, well at least for me it sometimes seems that way with my daughter's autism. But she wouldn't be that wonderful young lady that our family cares so intensely about!!! Take care

Hi Sandi, Firstly, Welcome to swap bot. Your profile is so inspiring and so refreshing. You have immense strength and your liveliness is contagious! The way you have written your profile itself is beautiful. I am sure your poems are amazing. Do you have them online somewhere? Would love to read them. I am very fond of beautiful literature and Rumi is one of my favorites :) Right now, England is so cold and I am dreaming of sandy beaches and coastal towns. I love the ocean, like you say, I could just spend hours by the sea. I also want to say that it is a great thing that you are doing at Operation White Home. I think every little effort counts. One more thing- i love it that you share your art/journals/writing in the form of gifts- this is a great idea and I am very sure it brings people a lot of joy. I really hope I can swap with you & thankyou for sharing the things you have said in your profile. Happy swapping, and have a great 2011! :)

Greetings! I'm Sherri, one of your partners in the "Read my Profile and Leave a Comment" swap. I so enjoyed reading your profile and I would love to meet you! You sound like such a special, talented and fascinating person. I think when one survives something like cancer, it causes a metamorphosis in the spirit, as well as the body. Your love of color, children and poetry leave me feeling refreshed and smiling. I hope we get to be partners in a swap one day.

wow....what an inspirational profile! You come across as genuine...gentle in nature but powerful in spirit! and I like that about you!!! I am reading your profile as part of the Read my profile and post a comment swap. I have only recently started exploring the 'freedom' of thinking outside the box...about coloring outside the lines if that makes you happy- and I loving it! I thought I was the only adult who was happy at the smell of crayons...but I am like that with Playdoh too! I am off to learn more about Operation Write Home....pat yourself on the back for spreading the word on a worthy cause.
