About Me

10/17/24 - Post-Milton recovery. Most people in Tampa only got their power back on ~Sun-Mon. Internet came back last night. Been using my phone, which is easier to charge, but I can't vet swap participants on a phone.

Mail may be slow getting in/out. Will send closer to the end dates so there's more time for road clearing.

10/6/24 - courting nervous breakdown. cleaning out deep flooding since last week, and another hurricane is coming. likely cat 3, direct hit. i've spent $1000 in the past week. which we don't have. what do i do.

9/20/24 - Updated NB-SB with an October planned update. Give it a read to see what's going on and what's ahead!

EMAIL me, please!

Message me for my e-mail address for messages longer than trading links, or anything I need to respond back to with more than a line or two. Otherwise, I have to keep every point of your message completely in my head while composing a response, especially on the phone when I can't get to a computer. So it doesn't happen.

SB was never intended to be an email server. SB Messenger does not allow for photo attachments, messaging multiple people, or most importantly, message chains. I cannot see what you messaged me at the same time that I'm writing back. That alone will significantly delay response times.

I have to go back and open a separate window to look for every single exchange we've had on a topic and any other relevant history before assembling it into a timeline. That is incredibly taxing. I can accomplish other things that are also important, OR I can drop everything for this one stupid message response. Both need to be done, and only enough energy for one 'set' of things.

Also, I can only respond when I'm on an actual computer. I can't do it from my phone. I try to avoid typing on that tiny keyboard for anything at all if it's longer than a phone number. Even my text apps need to be accessible via PC. Relatives who use SMS only often do not get responses because... I can't... type... on... my... PHONE. Which I've repeatedly told people. And yet!

Likes/Dislikes

STUFF I LOVE GETTING:

  • I love trading out washi + stickers. I have lots of them! I like 'academia,' 'dark forest,' animals, all kinds of things that aren't the cute, cartoony kind.
  • Naturalist or Pre-Raphaelite postcards or inspired things
  • Xmas or "holiday" POSTcards, not note or greeting cards
  • Embroidery floss + other threads for hand embroidery.
  • Pieces of lace or tiny scraps of cotton for crazy quilting. No "kid" or licensed themes, please.
  • Larger-eye needles. Mine are getting dull or somehow I'm losing them. I have piles of standard sewing needles and plastic needles.

Everything else, I have So Much of right now and I feel like I need to use more of it before I let myself buy more Things.

Feel free to message me if you want to send any of this stuff instead of the swap items asked for. It isn't a problem!

Dislikes:

It isn't personal, I just won't use these items in my own work. So things I will pass on automatically: - Used stamps - Kiddie stuff, kids' stickers - Most items from Dollar Tree - Most planner stickers unless it's just numbers - Felt stickers - Recipes (too many dietary restrictions. :P It's just a puzzle...) - Shaker-type items. - Postcards or notecards. Way too many right now! Unless they are Xmas POSTcards, which I send to kids as Mrs. Claus.

Please no dog hair, cigarette smells, or strong perfumes. I tend to get migraines and don't have a washing machine, so it could take 2 weeks to hot wash something properly.

Favorite Crafts

  • Sewing basic items. I try to use natural fabrics only, including scraps larger than 2x2" for sewing. Right now my joints are getting worse and will for the forseeable future, so lifting the sewing machine and such in a small space isn't doable easily. But hand-sewing with fine needles for more than a few minutes also isn't... I fear I'm losing one of the very few things I can still do. Any advice?

  • Papercrafts like art journalling, scrapbooking, and some bullet journal/art journal hybrid work for daily use.

Swap FAQs

I started a blog just to post FAQs about my swaps, USPS, tracking, etc.

Please check the link before asking about lost things, swap requirements, why I don't just go off ratings before banning someone, etc.

Blogspot is no longer accepted as a safe site by Spectrum ISP so I've gone back to Livejournal. I've been using it off and on for maybe 25 years and it's still one of my favourite blogging sites.

Comment: Love your card! as for suggestions as to what to do with your overwhelm of cards, how about sending some to a few nursing homes - those are the folks who could actually use the sunshine a pive of mail can bring. you can find addresses on websites for local facilities so you can keep it in your own community, and cheering up those who may have lived there before the facility - chat about something local to where they are, the nature, the old stores or how the common grounds at the park look. as for LSRUS i have been a member for quite some time, ty for the invite!

Comment: Thank you for the GREAT postcard (for a reader) and your list of books. I am not familiar with any of the writers although the titles are interesting. I should probably expand the genres I stick with!! πŸ“šπŸ“šπŸ“šπŸ“šπŸ“šπŸ“šπŸ“šπŸ“šπŸ“šπŸ“šπŸ“šπŸ“šπŸ“šπŸ“š
Response: You might like the site The Storygraph! They aren't Amazon-owned and they have a free or paid version. You can log your books, tag them with whatever you like, and check "similar books" or click on different genres. I also use Libby to click on the publisher company and search their books for things I might not normally read. Libby also lets me select just audiobooks or regular + "available now." There's almost 200,000 in the list! I scroll and tag with "to read" until I feel like that book. Hope you find something new! It's a big world!

Comment: Thank you very much!! I do appreciate this wonderful chance of journal making!! I have never seen anything like this before, it gives me a chance to delve into journal making. I really really want to learn and you are giving me all I need. Thank you so much!!
Response: I hope you have a lot of fun! I want to do "the right way" but... there is no right way. I'm not great with a lack of firm instructions. I hope you find more comfort with figuring out what you want to do, and that you can make as many different journals and notebooks as you want.
