About Me

Hmmm...what to say?

My name's Amy, and I've just graduated from college. I majored in International Studies and minored in Psychology. I went to a small, all women's university, and I LOVED it! I'd eventually like to work for a non-profit, an NGO. I would desperately love to move to the UK.

When I'm not out applying for jobs, I like to read, listen to music, knit, cross-stitch, and play World of Warcraft(For the Horde!).

I have a cat. Her name is Morgan, and she's all white. I try hard to make sure none of her fur gets into packages I mail out, but if you've ever had a pet, you know this is almost impossible.

I was introduced to swap-bot by one of my friends several years ago. I was really active when I first joined, but then life intervened and I haven't been back in a while. But I'm excited to get back into swapping!

I did mostly mix CD swaps before, and was terribly disappointed to see that we can't do them anymore, but I do understand and accept the logic behind the decision.

Favorite Music

I listen to EVERYTHING! Seriously. I have over 9000 songs in my iTunes, and I get more all the time. I listen to everything from Jpop to Disney, from heavy metal to instrumental Celtic music, from Billy Joel and the Beatles to Blink 182 and Hoobastank.

I'm not really fond of Rap music in general, but there are some songs that are okay. I'm also somewhat dubious about Ska music, but I'll listen to it.

Favorite Books

Where do I begin? Anything written by Tamora Pierce. Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson and Alpha and Omega series. Hyperion. Ender's Game. Stephen Donaldson's The Man Who...series. The Pillars of the Earth. The Eight. The Prince...my list could go on for days.

I am also a fan of manga, mostly shoujo.

Got a suggestion for me? I'd love to hear it. I'm always willing to try something new.

Favorite Movies

I'm not a big movie fan, but here goes: I like anything by Hayao Miyazaki; Ocean's 11 and 13; The Breakfast Club; Easy A; I'm strangely attached to Disney movies from my childhood.

I abhor horror movies, I can't stand them, and have no interest in sitting through them. More than the fact that they scare me is the fact that I can't get past how stupid the characters in these movies are. For example: you're sitting in a car in front of a creepy looking house. Your boyfriend went in 20 minutes ago, and told you he would be back in 10 minutes. You hear screams coming from the house, and instead of driving away, you go into the house to investigate. WHY would you go into the house? Do you WANT to die? UGH!

Favorite Television

I rarely watch television. I haven't really watched anything regularly since I was in elementary school. There are a few shows I've gotten interested in during the past couple years, but what usually happens is that I'll watch it for a season or two and then get distracted/bored/lose interest. Some examples: Glee, Lie to Me, Royal Pains, Supernatural, Bones...

Favorite Crafts

I've been crocheting since I was about 7.

I've been knitting for about the past 4 years, and have decided I like it better than crochet. I don't have a ton of time for it though, so I'm not spectacular or anything.

I have recently rekindled a love for cross-stitch.

I sew, but only enough to get by.

I draw. I'm an incessant doodler. My favorite medium for drawing is chalk pastels. My least favorite medium is charcoal. I hate how when you're trying to blend, it just ends up coming off the paper instead.

I'm a decent photographer, if I do say so myself.

I love origami! It's actually featured in a couple creative projects I've done for school.

Favorite Colors

I'm a big fan of split-complements. Purple and Orange are my favorite colors, both separately and together.

I love all colors, and I love rainbows too.

Likes/Dislikes

I suppose I should have a section on this, hmm?

Likes

  • Non-US coins (I love foreign currency. I think it all looks so awesome! I'd love any that you sent me - the bills are awesome too, but I actually only collect the coins).
  • knitting supplies(needles, stitch markers, etc.).
  • yarn! I tend to not like acrylic, natural fibers are best!
  • origami.
  • keychains.
  • steampunk.
  • sarcasm.
  • mix CDs.
  • Harry Potter.
  • tea.
  • pens, pencils.
  • Cadbury Boost bars (I got addicted to them when I was in Australia, and of course they don't sell them in the US).
  • Cadbury in general.
  • candles.
  • nature, plants, flowers, birds, trees, etc.
  • wolves
  • panthers
  • fairies.
  • stars, moons, suns.
  • crows/ravens.
  • storms.
  • Samhain (Halloween).
  • Celtic Knotwork.
  • I tend to wear silver jewelry as opposed to gold (I do have pierced ears, and my nose is pierced too!).

Dislikes

  • Things that smell like cigarette smoke. (It's nothing personal, I'm allergic and don't fancy getting a migraine.).
  • Things that don't serve a purpose other than to look nice. (I have limited space, so as pretty as it is, it just turns into clutter and I'll eventually throw it away. Sad but true).
  • acrylic yarns.
  • Anything terribly Christian. I'm Pagan, and happy with my faith. (I don't have anything against your religion, I'm just not interested in converting).
  • the Twilight series.
  • Jewelry that is nickel or other cheap metals. I'm allergic.

Okay, that's it for now. I'll try to add more stuff as I think of it...

Comment: Love the ATC, it's really beautiful! All I can say is to consider using stronger glue for sequins... some of them came unglued. I'm not holding it against you ;) I'll glue them back, just thought you might like to know for future! :)
Response: I'm glad you like it! Thanks for letting me know about the sequins, I'll be sure to use a stronger glue in the future. Thanks for the heart!

Comment: Thank you so much for your cento. I think you did an amazing job of creating flow and continuity in your poem. cento can be a bit dis-jointed but yours is strong in the flow department. I also like the sound of a couple of the poetry books you cited. I used a much more random technique for compiling my cento than you did and I think that paid off for you in terms of cohesion. xo yogi
Response: You're quite welcome! Thanks for hosting this swap, I'm glad you enjoyed my poem.

Response: Thank you for the heart, I'm glad you liked the pictures. I'm in no way an expert, but I thought a little explanation couldn't hurt. :)
