My name is Lisa. I'm a teacher-4th grade at the moment. I've taught 3rd through 8th grades. I consider myself to be very creative, but I've used that creative energy in the classroom for the past 15 years. I also work with a local and national group of writing teachers to help educators be better teachers of writers and to help children see themselves as writers.

I found altered art/books with this group of teachers, and fell in love. I just finished my first book--a book for my mother--of family pictures.

I met my husband in Germany in the U.S. Air Force. We've traveled quite a bit and I get to travel in my work with teachers.

Aside from teaching, traveling and altered books, reading is my favorite thing to do. I'm a book junkie.

I don't have children of my own, but our home has been filled with children over the years: a stepson, nieces, nephews and friend's children. My dogs are my "children" now. We have a 10 year old lab, boxer mix (Mich) and a 16 month old golden retriever (Byron).

I'm not a very girlie girl, but I'm learning to appreciate the altered art I've seen with 20s and 30s themes. I love nature--not cutsy-type nature. I'm not much of a TV watcher, but I like old movies and current detective shows. I've become a bit obsessed with cooking shows on the Food Network lately.

As far as altered art, I'm just beginning to get a collection of materials together. So, I'm at the stage where I'm not even sure I know what I need. I'm just happy to learn and have some fun.
