About Me

Hello! I'm Sabine - a mother of two lively and bubbly boys ('08 & '14)) and you can find toy cars, lego parts and train tracks on my home floors. I'm a practical nurse working in homecare taking care of the elderly. I work in shifts and there are days I'd like to crash on the couch when I get home (I do occasional napping) :) Luckily my workplace is within 10minute walking distance and when weather allows, I hop on my bike :)

I enjoy multiple things like exploring flea markets (you can find the strangest of things!), good movies, goodnatured kids (own! They just fight over the smallest of things sometimes! Haha), a good book that swipes you away and with what you realize at 2.30am that you just can't stop reading!

Travelling, seeing new places and meeting people - if only I could do that always! But haven't found the moneytree yet. We do try to travel abroad once a year though :)

I just love, love, love snailmailing and all that comes with it! You can often see me in postcard-swaps due to my 'obsession' over them :) I'm not all that crafty even though I'd love to. Did my share with decos once but seeing all the possibilities these days, I find myself googling what is what.. I love lettering and calligraphic styles. Mail art is something I find myself looking up on Pinterest. I love my mail with real stamps - the more the merrier

Favorite Books

I'm reading too little these days, I just can't find enough time but the last book i read was Harry Potter and the cursed child, Lord of the Rings is amazing and then i enjoy Robin Cook's books and I'm a big fan of Torey Hayden's books as well.

Favorite Movies

Romance, comedy and action - separately or all together. Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts - just to name two actors whose movies I truly enjoy. There are only a few movies I can say I could watch over and over again.. Pretty Woman definitely is one. Die Hard movies are my favorite "Christmas" movies!

Favorite Television

I get hooked over tv shows and I can easily snitch an hour from my sleep to watch an episode of whatever I am looking at the time. I thought I'd never get Netflix.. I was wrong, so wrong :)

Favorite Crafts

When i have time, i make my own Christmas cards. I often decorate my envelopes/postcards. I did buy a punch board for making my own envelopes and I love to make address labels. Stickers, washi, die cuts, rubberstamps, colors, papers.. bring it on baby!

Favorite postcards

I'm a BIG fan of postcards!

I always check everyone's profiles for likes/preferences (even though it would be sender's choice!). I always try to find the right card among that, if it just is possible. I appreciate if you read mine, I basically have just a few no-no's and a huuuuge list of likes. I never send unwanted leftovers to anyone, even if it'd be Sender's choice - I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate getting them either, right? :)

Which kind do I like then? Different kinds actually, depends on the swap! As long as you have put effort in it eg with stamps, decorations, or just a lovely message. Send mine written and stamped unless the swap says otherwise :). Here goes a few ideas..

  • Mapcards, of your surroundings/country/ USstates

  • Scenery. Cards of your surroundings/country are always fascinating, as that way I get a glance at your life.

PLEASE I prefer you wouldn't send touristic cards BLANK (I really prefer them Only written & stamped and preferably Only from origin/region. Thank You!

  • Lighthouses / bridges / castles / windmills / gardens

  • Rain, fog, wind, thunder, natural phenomenons of your area

  • Mailboxes

  • Unesco

  • Folklore tales& stories, urban legends, ghost stories

  • Artistic (fairytales, stories, modern, illustrated)

  • Colorful, shaped, untypical, zany

  • Black & white

  • GF (Greetings from..) - Official or unofficial, as far as it comes from the origin!

  • Holiday related; Christmas cards in December, Easter cards around Easter etc, Birthday cards welcome too.

All in all, I'm happy with all - every single card makes me happy, just surprise me! But keep the erotic/nudistic or religious cards for someone who collects them. Selfmade cards ok if made well and with thought.

Others

Other things that I like

  • washi
  • clear stamps
  • greeting cards/ note cards
  • stickers (good quality please!)
  • self made address labels
  • self made envelopes
  • stationery/ writing paper
  • flavored tea (black/green)
  • Something your area is known of

Dislikes

I don't really care for Disney (or such), manga, reward/teacher/Action hero/puffy stickers or confetti/Glitter. Torn or bent postcards or cigarrette smell in goods. I'm not the greatest fan of basic "box-shaped" stickers (I prefer shaped for some reason) but surely I act like an adult if I get some ;).

Comment: Thanks for the 'chunk' and nice note. I hope this finds you well. The flu is about passed here and I think I have lucked out. (Knock on my head, which is a wood-like substance.) I don't know how I got away without it as I have been taking care of the children of a couple adults with it and then taking care of the ill children -- the little germ incubators. You are right in that all three of the five-year-olds did much better than their mother with it. It is, of course, spring here too. In Maine though, we don't call it that. It is 'mud season, followed by 'black fly season', then 'mosquito season'. By the time we can actually go outside, its so hot I don't want to. It hit fast this year. One week there was snow in the forest and piles a meter and more high from the plowing. The next week, there was not a hint of snow to be found, but for the deepest ditches at the side of the road, and daytime temps were, and continue to be, reaching 20 to 22C.

Comment: Yum, those snack cakes are super good! One of my 1st graders brought some to school for snacks last week and that was the first time I had tried them. Good for you for quitting sugar, I have done that before and also have been vegan...neither now although I really need to again!
