I can remember there was a name in a story or a video game or somewhere else that was spelled Khazar. I decided to use two "z", so it would become more obvious how to pronounce the name.
It has nothing to do with the Khazar Empire (in German it would be the "Chasarische Kaghanat") and every interpretation would be by chance. I just like the sound of the name, it sounds somehow "catish" (I'd prefer the German word "kätzisch" (cat-like) here, although it isn't a real word either).
