About Me

Welcome to my profile!

It is a bit outdated, but I am working on it.

Firstly, if you are waiting for a private response from me, I apologise for the delay. I have gone through some traumatic experiences that culminated in a temporary loss of language. While I am able to write and speak again (with varying degrees of complexity, stress, pain etc), it has become inexplicably hard. Somewhat ironically, I used to write about non-verbal and semiverbal people's rights and inclusion. Here we are now. A reminder that abilities and privileges are ephemeral, fluid, subject to change. Anyway, I really struggle with letters and communication in general now. That is why you may see me signing up for one-time swaps, or spontaneous tasks that are doable that day. I promise I have not forgotten about you. I keep the letters I have yet to respond to in a separate letter display that I can see from my bed, desk, virtually anywhere in the room. I think of you, I am sorry, and I will get back to you.

Back to the profile, yet-to-be-updated.

I love engaging with all sorts of art in all sorts of ways, creating, viewing, experiencing. I like going to museums, and used to create online galleries on Occupy White Walls. I don't go to the theatre as much as I should these days, but I'm into that, too (bit of an understatement. I study Theatre Arts at university). I enjoy conceptualising my own performances and exhibits. It would be wonderful if those could become a reality soon. I struggle with my career. Navigating this fast, product-and-profit-oriented society as a disabled person is very hard. (Update: currently working as a cultural educator in schools / theatre projects. Mentored by a friend who is disabled, too :)) Being multiply disabled and queer are pillars of my identity (next to being creative, just, passionate etc). I am non-binary and experience gender and sexuality as fluid. Whatever colour of the rainbow you are, I welcome you with open arms.

Regardless of a swap's theme, I'm always happy to receive a letter. You can infodump about any topic that's currently on your mind, I'll gladly read about it. The real stuff, the mundane. Writer's choice.

The interpersonal aspect is important to me as I enjoy getting to know about people's lives and thoughts. However, there are many ways to express oneself, so one person may choose to do it in words while another may paint. I think all of these modes of communicating our inner worlds are beautiful.

When I have time and energy, I enjoy tailoring mail to the individual recipient. If there are only a few days in between partner assignments and deadline or the swap is sender's choice, I may prepare what I feel like in advance.

Sometimes I like decorating envelopes, cards and bookmarks with stickers and washi tape, other times I prefer to draw, paint and doodle. I dream of making a living by being creative.

Other hobbies include singing, going to concerts, dressing up, make-up, playing board games, card games, computer games and so on, watching films or TV shows with my partner, family, friends...

Favorite Music

I travel back and forth between genres such as Heavy Metal, Gothic Rock, J-Rock, Post-punk, Industrial, Darkwave, Coldwave, Punk, Neue Deutsche Welle, New Wave, Ethnopop, Shoegaze, Dreampop, Symphonic Metal, Heavy Metal, Metalcore, Rock'n'Roll, Hyperpop, Chanson, Folk, Afropop, Afro-fusion, Shanties, piano music, pseudo-medieval styles, Bardcore :D etc

Favorite Movies

Creative and atmospheric SciFi such as Interstellar, Blade Runner, Annihilation, Arrival. I like the cyberpunk aesthetic, too.

Animations with love in every detail such as Klaus, Kung Fu Panda and Your Name.

Films that balance funny and meaningful.

Queer stories that are not centered on tragedy / violence.

The silent film era is very fascinating to me in terms of acting styles, make-up and costuming, use of on-screen text and music.

I love comedies such as What We Do In The Shadows.

Recently watched: Good Omens 2 ♡♡♡♡♡

Favorite Books

I enjoy the absurd gothic world of Welcome to Night Vale and Alice Isn't Dead.

I have a love-hate relationship with poetry. :)

I like comics. Manga, graphic novels, webcomics...

I enjoy queer lit in general, including the classic Coffeeshop AU. ;D

I'd like to know about stories with queer or (and?) disabled protagonists that are neither very sad nor very violent. Any medium goes.

The Anthropocene Reviewed podcast.

Recently started: A man and his cat

Favorite Television

Avatar the Last Airbender, Good Omens, Hannibal, Elementary, Arrested Development, Please Like Me, Special, Orphan Black, Orange is the new Black, Hilda, Legend of Korra, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Motherland Fort Salem, Brooklyn 99, Death Note, The Nevers, Uncle, Young Sheldon, TBBT, Mandalorian etc

Recently finished: Usagi Drop Recently started: Wednesday, Andor, Midnight Occult Civil Servants

Info for swap partners

  • No Bible verses etc.

  • If possible, avoid dominant bright / neon colours, please. They hurt my autistic brain. (Using some brights is fine, just not an overpowering amount. Bright red and neons are a struggle)

  • Limit busy patterns such as tiny polka dots, narrow zig zag etc. (Again, some sections are fine)

Comment: Thank you for the wonderfully decorated envelope and chatty letter with your list. It reminds me of when a friend of mine and I would write back and forth in journals and swap when we saw each other. I'm going to message you my email for the Spotify list, unless you want to share it with me on IG. My list also had Peter Murphy and Bauhaus, but different songs. And, omfg do I agree that ticking clocks are intolerable! I turned off the chime on my mom's old mantle clock because that is NOT my kind of evidence of time passing. 🦇
