Description:

OPEN to beginner and experienced Art/Visual Journal-ers!! Lets Get Arty!
Create one A5 size art journal page for your partner, using any two of the following themes
*Circus, *The Sky, *Add A Photo, *Watercolour,

You can included writing and artwork and any kind of medium can be included: stamping, rub-ons, fibres, pencil, bling , splash some paint, a magazine cut outs..

But please leave approximately 1 or 2cm on the left hand side of the page without writing on it as depending on the binding style the recipient uses, they may not be able to read it after they bind it.

We will be running these regularly so we can all build up our journals with lots different themes, you can either add this page to your existing art journal or you can bind the pages together after a number of swaps!

Please Include a note to your partner as to how u have interpreted the themes you have chosen for this page, and the swap name.

There is no correct way to journal and you don’t need to buy expensive supplies but here a few jumping off points.

Do we do something on the back of this page, so that there is something to see when it it turned over ? ... or leave it blank to be stuck to the next page ?

catsandbutterflys 08/20/2011 #

Please leave it blank as it can be stuck down if that is the recipients prefered binding method :) thanks

I don't reall understand the themes here. Like I can understand circus and Sky, but don't really know what you mean by add a photo and water colour. Could u please explain? I'll put myself down as watching 4 now.

Hi, Col, :) just remember there is no “wrong” in art journaling, I was leaving up to individual interpretation but in my mind you pick 2 themes for example add a photo and watercolour.. so I can do what ever I want on the whole page but somewhere I include my themes for example I might do a watercolour wash on the background or paint a watercolour butterfly in one corner. Then I might add a magazine photo of a face to a stamped image or include a picture from a recent trip on my page.

Hope that’s clearer Vashti

To my partner in this swap ...whoever you will be... If you choose the circus theme - I would prefer it not to be filled with lions, tigers and monkeys. I will be contacting my partner I send to for their preference. Taa

I hate to sound dumb, but just to be sure is this one right hand page? it dosen't open out to a double page? sorry I have never done one before, you might be sorry you opened it to beginners lol.

cafras 08/30/2011 #

My understanding was that it is one page .. to be either left or right .. depending on how the receiver binds their journal together ??? on re-reading the description above, to me, it reads a right hand page, ie: will be fixed/holed/bound on the left. Maybe a 2 page spread would be easier ( and quicker to get the book together ) and then each open page would have been made by the one person giving continuity ? 2012ash I think you might have opened a bag of worms!

2012ash 08/30/2011 #

Oh no leave it at a right hand page, I don't think I could do a double page anyway.

I decided to drop from this swap as I really don't think I am ready for it, please ignore anything I said, I will for the moment stick to things I can do. Happy swapping everyone

catsandbutterflys 09/ 4/2011 #

Yes! it is one sided A5 size unfolded :) Sorry it took me so long to get back to this !!

catsandbutterflys 09/ 4/2011 #

The receiver would decide how to bind it (or not) as a left OR right sided page

cafras 09/ 4/2011 #

One last question is it to be portrait or landscape ???? I've noted your image is portrait. I was preparing my page and suddenly thought...which way up .

catsandbutterflys 09/ 5/2011 #

Hi everyone :) I thought I would clarify the page layout better... Sorry for making it so "curly"!!! I think landscape or portrait is senders choice. Now we r leaving the back blank so it can be stuck into a existing book. ALSO incase u'r partner wants to use it as a tip in page we are leaving a 1 to 2cm edge around the border that is text free ( I originally said the left side only but think it will facilitate binding styles if we make it all sides) please decorate u'r page to the EDGE but just don't write there as it may be covered later. Please ask if this doesn't seem clear ... I'v just spent the last 22 hours awake so my brain is in slow mo (x_x)

catsandbutterflys 09/ 5/2011 #

Ps if u have already made u'r page and there is writing on the edges... u still get an A+ for sticking to the original criteria, and u'r partner WILL NOT rate u down :p as it is the crasy hosts fault ** blows raspberry **

sweetypiedie 09/11/2011 #

Dear host please get some sleep I think your sanity is starting to fray at the seams! :P Mine has frayed and been restitched many times so don't worry, it can be fixed! I hear chocolate and naps are good sanity-glue. :)
