Description:

For this swap we will be making paper bag journals. There are a few different ways of making paper bag journals, but I would like for all of us to follow this tutorial here by @sacredyoli .

Once you have cut and folded your paper bags, you will have 4 double-sided pages (8 surfaces) measuring approximately 4½"x5" each. The theme of your journal is open and sender's choice; you do however need to incorporate collage techniques into the design of your pages. You may also add mixed media touches as well. You will have a month once partners are assigned to complete your journal - be creative and have fun!

This is a great opportunity for those of us who have been wanting to give art journaling a try! I hope to make this a series with future swaps following specific themes.

The Rules:

  • You must use paper lunch bags. These are the ones that open flat on the bottom and measure 5â…›" x 3â…›" x 10⅝". You may choose to use different colored bags than the standard kraft paper brown.
  • Follow the tutorial listed above for making your journal. I would like for us to all start with the same base.
  • Because of the way these journals are constructed, the pages also double as pockets (in this case there will be 4 pockets). I thought it would be fun to include at least one surprise for our partners in one of the pockets of our journals. The surprise is also sender's choice, but it would be nice to take some hints from your partner's profile. Your surprise can be handmade (an ATC, APC, altered tag, photograph, etc) or store bought (a sticker sheet, patch, magnet, etc). You can include more than one surprise if you wish, but you must include at least one.

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to comment below or PM me.

Oh I'm sorry I missed this! I recently made a book with a different tutorial and actually sewed the binding shut and I still have a bunch of bags left over. ^_^ Maybe next time!
