I have just discovered geocaching! There are literally thousands hidden all over the place. All you need is a GPS that tracks them. You can also find hints online as to where they are. Get lots of ideas at geocaching.com This will consist of sending your partner a water tight container, notebook and pen . The idea is to entice people to visit an area they have never been. Once they find the geocache, they will take something and write their name in the book, where they are from and the item they left. After a couple of months, check up on your geocache and make sure it still has paper, pen and goodies. You should get a bunch of different ones. Some are even traceable! You can put them in other caches you find. I have the minimum rating to join at 4.9 and newbies are okay. I will angel ones that are dropped after researching it. Hope to see you all on board and let's get all those secret spots known so everyone can enjoy them! :)

Aww, can't join the swap! Good luck with the treasure hunting! Suggestion though, take gloves and a bag to collect trash - I believe some caches have a supply of bin bags for finders to use. It is so disheartening to see caches in beautiful but litter-strewn areas.

I think creating a geocaching group here on swapbot would be cool. We could have swaps to collect treasures to leave in the caches we find.

That is an awesome idea! I always bring gloves and a small plastic bag with me. Luckily, I don't need it often.

You can also use one of the new smart phones. There are free apps to use as a GPS, some specifically for geocaches

I use "True Bearing" for my android phone. It's free and works off of google sats.

We just recently discovered geocashing. Our city has over 30... I have actually lost weight doing this because we are hiking more lol and some of the locations are in parks etc... We have some ingenious cashes including in pens taped on street signs and under light posts...who knew the bases weren't bolted down? Lots of family fun (:

The last cache we found was sited next to a footpath popular with dog-walkers.... We've found some caches that are very very small (less than an inch long and not even half an inch wide) and some very very sneakily hidden (one was dangling by a fishing wire on a bridge - almost gave up looking... many logged DNFs on that one). I haven't placed a geocache yet. Perhaps after I have placed my first, I may host a UK/Europe swap.

We've been caching for about two years now and it never loses its excitement. Our goal is to hit 400 caches before the end of summer :) If you haven't tried it before, give it a shot... it's free and it's good exercise!

Quick question - should we include small items to trade in the container or is this JUST a plastic container, pen and note pad? I'd like to make it special but I'm not exactly sure the best way to do that :)
