Description:
After a long semester, I actually learned something! In my Literacy for Secondary Education class, we learned about found poetry, and I thought it would be a cool idea for a swap. A found poem is where you take text that is not already a poem and create a poem from it-- Google "Found Poetry" or "Found Poem How to" and it will give you some good information on how to do it... The image is of an ATC that I made with found poetry--I took a paragraph from a Stephen King book and cut out certain words to make a quirky, yet interesting little poem. I used rubber stamps and chalk ink for the background, and added (my signature!) stick-on rhinestones. For this swap, you will make one ATC for each of 2 partners, for 2 ATCs total. Use an actual page from a book, newspaper or magazine article, a piece of junk mail---anything---and cut out the words to create your found poem. You can make it any length that will fit on your ATC, but try to make it at least 10 words. Make a nice background for it, and use embellishments if you want. You could even do something to the text page before you cut the words out: colored pencil, chalk, distress ink, rubber stamp, etc.... For this swap, you will need to have a rating of at least 4.5, with no unexplained 3's and no 1's.

If anyone has problems using the link above, it should have little underlines on either side of the number, like this: "http://www.ehow.com/how _ 2173270 _ write-found-poem.html" - but without the gaps (unfortunately swap-bot interprets the underlines by just making the number be in italics!)

Couldn't get the link to work either, even removing the gaps. Just typed HOW TO MAKE FOUND POETRY into search engine and got some good ideas.

One quick question because this came up on another swap - do we have to use the actual pieces of paper or can it be found poetry that we re-write? I would love to do this and actually already have a couple made, but they weren't actual text that I cut out - I just circled words from a letter and put them in order on my cards.

Great question---- I'd like you to use the actual text.....you can even color the page with the text first if you want...I'll add it to the swap info above in case someone misses it down here....

I have an important question: This swap is international - so I wonder, if I can use other language as English. I am german. If I use german in my poem, I'd include a translation on a notepaper. I haven't English magazines which I'd like to cut.

@Cosima --I would say OK, but when partners are assigned, ask your partner if this is OK....If your partner is fine with this, maybe the translation can go on the back of the ATC....
