Description:

Do you make zines? sell your handmade items on etsy? crochet teddys? stickers? comix? artwork (GOOD artwork!) hats? clay moulds? jewelry? your band's cd? diy dildos?..

SWAP IT HERE!!

3 partners. Send them at least 1 item you have made! But send more than 1 item if you are cool or can afford to.

People who really make stuff can join. But if you don't really make things like this then don't join. Don't send your partner some crap thing with a letter like "umm..i can't really draw, but here's some art i made anyway" some of these items can cost quite a bit. so if they are sending you something that took 5 hours to make and cost $5 and they get in return a doodle drawn in 5 seconds they are gonna be pissed. And if they do, they can rate you a 3, provided you guys have talked previously about resending or you explaining why it isn't a shitty drawing and they should look at Aline Kominsky Crumb's artwork!

You must send your partner something you would actually want to get. Something you care about. Something cool. Not something made quickly. People don't let your partner down.

In general your item should cost around $4 to $5. try not to send anything else more expensive then that. So don't just send 1 handmade pin..we all know that did not cost anything near $5. if pins is all you make, send them more than 1..maybe 5. this is a terrible example of what i'm trying to say. you know what i mean. If I send you a handmade pillow fully decorated and i got a white coffee cup you just poorly painted over i will cry...that said i can't make pillows. but now you get what i mean.

I reserve the right to ban anyone I feel might not send. Sorry. I'm strick on these kind of things. Newbies welcomed with FULLY filled out profiles and has signed in at least 2 days before the last day to sign up.

DIY CRAFTERS UNITE!

Discussion

Just a suggestion: maybe it would be better to put an "hour amount" on the craft instead of a dollar amount? It still won't be perfect, but it seems like there's slightly less room for debate.

CometaGuavaberry 03/10/2011 #

Sounds nice ! I need to practice crafts again I`ll watch since i have space for more swaps

theanswerisseven 03/14/2011 #

I kinda agree with Emika... I'm broke and make things on the cheap. It could cost me $20 for the materials to make something that only takes an hour to make... or $0 in salvaged materials that takes 6 hours, y'know?

diy dildos? seriously? what are diy dildos? they sound kinky. :-P

I would like to participate in one of your swaps before the world ends. You seem like an interesting person. BTW, the Mayans give us till next year ;)

Pookledo 03/19/2011 #

Hehe. I know someone who makes DIY Dildos laughs And yes, he's kinky. lol

alwayschic 03/27/2011 #

Yeah, i like the idea about the time commitment...Im hoping you adjust the swap to say this:)

I make Iris folding cards>I also decorate the cards and envelopes. IT takes quite sometime to make these cards. Would this be a possible swap for me. I need to cut out the subject with scissors, then I need to cut each piece of paper to fit the pattern and tape each side down. Once the whole pattern is covered I put a fancy Iris in the center and then secure the whole back of the card with packaging tape to keep it in place. Then I need to double tape the iris folding onto another card >either making fancy corners or framing the folding. I make my card different by decorating the inside of the card with the same paper I folded for the pattern and decorate the envelope. Each of these take quite sometime to do. I hope this will be fine, because I know what you mean>I have sent out Iris folded cards that have taken forever to do and then get some card that looked like a kid did it. So it is very disappointing as I always take the time to do my stuff and then to get something like that>why bother. I also agree with the girl who uses salvaged materials to make her projects too. Some times those turn out to be the best projects. But I think or hope people get the jist of the swap. IF you can't craft>don't join the swap or your not an artist>don't join the swap, be sure it is something you would be willing to display for all to see. But just like with pins, some are very beautiful and worth the 5.00 but others look like kids did them and you wouldn't even want to wear it. But there again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Thanks, MaryAnn maryannr1742

I want to join but I don't want to disappoint anyone based on what they think something I made is worth. I am able to acquire really nice materials cheaply and a lot of times I reuse items like broken jewelry or fabric to make items but if someone might think the end craft is junk then I'd feel bad, I have an Etsy shop and swap on another site with other people and I've done direct swaps with other shop owners on Etsy. I don't consider myself an artist, but I don't think I make junk. I think these types of swaps can be difficult for people to determine what is of value. I mean, if I use pieces of vintage jewelry to make a great brooch for someone and I get handmade cards (which I may or may not have use for) how can I say my items are of more value than someone else's craft? I don't want to risk getting a 3 if someone doesn't like or understand the items I make. =(

i would love to join this swap, but agree with others that 3 partners at that requirement plus international shipping is asking a lot financially...hope you do another similiar swap with just one partner!

AndrewLips 03/30/2011 #

Hmm there seems to be a lot of trouble about some of the guildelines for this swap. Sorry. If I was going to make it an "Hourly" kind of swap instead of a "Price" related swap it wouldn't work at all for me. The things i'm sending take literally months and months to make. If other people want to do swaps similar to this but change the guidelines, go ahead, make a swap similar to this, just mention this swap.

Emika 03/31/2011 #

I made a similar swap based on hour, not price. Here it is

AmidorableCrochet 03/31/2011 #

I am new here...but would love to take part in the swap! I crochet and make Amigurumi's :)

MurphyPagan 04/ 1/2011 #

Hey, if I might stick my 2 cents worth in here. It should not matter whether it is per price or per hr, people take the time to make things and we all should be appreciative, no matter if it costs $0 and takes 10 hours or costs $10.00 & takes 5 minutes. I am sorry, but this sounds a little petty to me.

People make things and people buy things, we should all appreciate whatever we get no matter the monetary value. I am always happy to receive whatever somebody wishes to send to me.

Please forgive me if I am being rude, which it is not meant to be. Just trying to understand why so many want things their way instead of how the hostess has set the rules.

AmidorableCrochet 04/ 1/2011 #

yay...can't wait to find out who my swap partner will be :)

bonbon 04/ 8/2011 #

Well, heres another factor to ponder, besides the time and value.what did it take for materials...........Was it new from Micheals or a 25 cent yard sale material. Anyway, I hope my par tners like what I send as I will do the best I can according to profiles.............. It will be interesting to see what I receive,an adventure.

MurphyPagan 04/28/2011 #

I wanted to leave a comment about someone here. It seems as several people have not sent out their goodies to their partners. I was supposed to receive something from alwayschic and according to the list she has not even sent it out. I have tried to contact her several times, without a reply. One of my partners has sent, but I have not received yet & that is why I have not rated. As I am overseas, I know it takes a while to get things. Another one, I have received and it was awesome.
