Description:

I just discovered Zentangles and I am loving them! However, I’m a bit concerned about joining an "experienced" Zentangle enthusiasts' swap and falling short of expectations.

Soooo...here we are! Although this swap is geared towards beginner "Zentangle-ists" anyone is welcome to join!

You will be making 2 ATC's for 1 partner. ATCs must be of standard size - 2 1/2" x 3 1/2". Make sure they have a sturdy backing as well. Kindly include your name, the swap name and the date on the back of your cards. Other information is nice, but optional.

Even if you are a Zentangle beginner, please put a good effort into your cards! Let your creativity and self-expression flow :)

  • I will be looking for a solid swapping history. If you have unexplained low ratings, I will have to ban you. I am sorry about that but, yeah. *

Please remember to rate your partner as soon as your cards are received. 5s should be given out based on whether the ATCs meet the swap requirements, not whether you like them or not.

I have found several Zentangle reference websites. If you are interested in learning more about Zentangles, or even for a bit of inspiration try these:

http://www.zentangle.com/index.php

http://www.squidoo.com/how-to-zentangle

By the way, I do not believe that special supplies are needed to zendoodle. Sharpie fine point pens and markers, fine line pens, etc. work.

Any questions, comments, whatevers - contact me!

Cheers!

Hi! This sounds like a great swap! I'm new at Zentangle and feel a bit insecure about sending an ATC out. Would you consider changing this one or creating a new swap that is international? II would really love that! /Ulrica

tanglepatterns.com is another awesome pattern site.
Happy Zentangling!

@gewalli Ah, thanks for your interest! I've received a couple of messages about an international version. I think I will set one up next week. Keep an eye out for it!

InFlorida 02/27/2011 #

@LadyStephanie Thank you! I'll take a look there.

You were reading my mind. I was thinking about a swap like this myself. I am a newbie zentanglist. :)

gewalli 02/27/2011 #

Thanks!!

InFlorida 02/27/2011 #

@djmom Great minds! Welcome and thank you for joining!

Why are there so many Zentangle swaps not using the correct Zentangle size? I do tangles but they are the same size as ATCs.

Deeno1105 03/ 4/2011 #

Meant to say Zentangles are NOT the same size as ATCs

Alright... I was reading this swap and asked my boss if she knew what a zentangle was. Besides photographing it's her next favorite art. With in minutes I was trying my hand on a new ATC card with this new form of art. I love it. You have to do this more often. It is really relaxing and fun to see what the eye, hand and mind will come up with when creating a zentangle.

InFlorida 03/ 5/2011 #

@Deeno Yes indeed, original Zentangles are 3 1/2 inches square. However, I suspect that those of us who love ATCs as well opt to sometimes combine both. It is still just as fun, intuitive, and relaxing, not to mention just as beautiful. I see a Zentangle swap using square tiles in the making!

@gewalli I just posted an international version of this swap!

pynart2 03/11/2011 #

Looking forward to this swap. Hope you will have many more Zentangle swaps, I just love them.

InFlorida 03/11/2011 #

Me too! I definitely will :)

Deeno1105 03/12/2011 #

I've done mine and am waiting to see who gets it. I joined a swap last night......."Tiny Tangles". We were to tangle on 2" x 2" squares. Really interesting and fun. Done with that one too. LOL! I'm a tangling fool!!!!!!!

InFlorida 03/15/2011 #

I've done mine as well...Actually I just keep doing them! I'll have a selection to choose from, yay!

angeleyes79 03/16/2011 #

I will join if I have an open spot.

InFlorida 03/16/2011 #

Sign up deadline is the 19th, so come on!

JWJW2 03/17/2011 #

Ok, I'm doing this. I'm jumping in. I've never done one before and just came across the term "Zentangle" two days ago and am fascinated. What better way to jump right in than a swap that takes into account that some of us are newbies. :) Thanks for hosting this swap, InFlorida! :)

sleen 03/18/2011 #

I've never done one before. All the examples I've looked at are in black and white--is it o.k. to color them?

sleen 03/18/2011 #

ha--figures. I just read (on a site I hadn't yet gone to) that they are supposed to be B&W. OK (deep breath) this looks fun!

ssshauna 03/19/2011 #

If you host this one again... let us internationals in! It sounds like fun!

InFlorida 03/19/2011 #

Hello guys! Welcome to the swap! Zentangles are fun :) Yes, traditionally they are B&W, but as a purely creative work, I feel that it is fine to add a bit of color to them.

InFlorida 03/19/2011 #

@ssshauna I had several requests to host an international version of this swap. It is already on! Look for Zentangle Newbies Unite! - ATC International :)

OfficeWeed 03/19/2011 #

Finished my tiny tangles last night...I may well make these ATC's tiny also ... well, the lines will be tiny... they size will be ATC :) I don't have any zentagle squares, so I am SO happy to see these being done on ATC size. I bought some ATC papers at Hobby Lobby (2.59 for 20 sheets...I thought that was good deal!!).

JWJW2 03/21/2011 #

Ok, so is anyone else dreaming of doing Zentangles like I am? LOL! I'm having so much fun. Thanks again InFlorida for hosting. :)

EMS2006 03/30/2011 #

This is a great idea. I am a newbie too. I found this swap too late to join but would appreciate it if you let me know whe you do another one. I post my Zentangle inspired art (ZIA) on my blog http://bethitiswhatitis.blogspot.com/ When you drop by check out the links to MANY other Zentanglers listed down the right side of the screen.

InFlorida 03/31/2011 #

@EMS2006 Thanks for sharing! I loved your page and the links there. Your Flickr page is great also! I will definitely host another in April. Keep an eye out!

InFlorida 03/31/2011 #

@JWJW2 I find myself zentangling in all sorts of places where there is any waiting involved: doctors' waiting rooms, airport...etc.
