because thats probably the main item people are looking to receive, at least that is how I took it.

I would agree. I'd rather receive images more than the random text collage material. You can only use so much of that.

Are 4x6 envelopes really only one stamp? The last time I did a 4x6 collage swap I weighed it on my postal scale and ended up using five stamps because of the weight.

Yeah I am a bit confused about this as well. Are supposed to use one stamp only? because I wont be able to add much stuff for that... Of images yes maybe, but not other things (like textured paper etc). I kindof need to know, as I am looking for low postage swaps only, at the moment(tight with money, but still wanna swap)

This is what the post office says about size of envelopes:

• At least 3-1/2 inches high by 5 inches long by 0.007 inch thick

• No more than 6-1/8 inches high by 11-1/2 inches long by 1/4 inch thick

• Surcharge will apply for nonmachinable letter.

Note that last line. I wasn't aware of this until one day I'm charged extra for a one-ounce envelope. The post office confirmed it weighed exacly one ounce (I weigh these at home, so I know the weight before I get there), but I was charged extra for the thickness. So the size of the envelope is okay, BUT what needs to be clear is that ONE STAMP = ONE OUNCE, so swappers will know that putting one item into an enveope (which has happened to me) is not meeting the requirements. I love one-stamp swaps, but if the envelope doesn't weigh one-ounce, then what's the point?

Also, sending international will cost more anyway. Just saying.

Ideally yes, the swap is for those of us who would like to keep postage costs to a minimum. I understand that international postage is a bit more.

Part of the challenge of any one stamp swap is figuring out a way to send the things you would like to send to a partner while keeping within the postage requirements set forth by the post office. Again, this doesn't mean you HAVE to use only one stamp. That's up to you.

Ctyankee is correct about the thickness of envelopes. I learned this during a 30 sticker swap where I sent some dimensional stickers and was astounded that it required extra postage. If the envelope is slightly thicker then the post office requirements, the extra postage is 20 cents.

One way to help with cramming all those wonderful goodies into one envelope (if you have the capability) is to scan or photocopy multiple images on one page for your partner to cut out on their own.

1) I believe the dimensions of the envelope are 4 inches x 6 inches (don't know what that is in centimeters - but it's the same size as a standard postcard.) The idea is to fill an envelope this size with collage fodder for a collage the size that the recipient decides to make.

2) envie = envelope! :)
