Description:

So wolfeagle is getting me into the art doll thing and I have noticed a distinct lack of neat pieces in my stash to use. Would love to try some more in my jewelry too so I decided to do this swap. For this one you will put together a package of found objects for your partner to use in their art. For example : old keys, bottle caps, pieces of wire, cool ephemera, tarnished silverware, old stamps. I have noticed that these days one has to get really creative on finding "found" objects so if you have to hit your local thrift store or de-stash your Dad's garage that is fine. We all have a panache for scavenging don't we? No rules on how it was found, just nothing "NEW". Fill up a 6X9 Envie or small box, whatever will work best for your items. Make sure you package it really well so it doesn't fall apart en route at the post office. Also make sure things have been cleaned up (Patina is good but no stray spider webs please!). You'll have 4 weeks to hunt stuff down so everybody can send really cool things. Anybody in good standing in the group is welcome to join.

OMG! What a great swap. I can't wait. I'll probably use a small flat rate box, so I can send heavy items. Is this okay? Thank you!!!!

You can use whatever your little heart desires!

Such a cool idea! I can't wait to get swapping!

What is ephemera? I keep asking people, but no one ever answers.

I am still on the fence about this one. I think it would be a wonderful swap, but I was disappointed with the last swap. (CR craft supply) The person that sent to me had a different idea of what "fill up" means. :( I walk in the park regularly, and apparently my town is full of litter bugs because I always find the coolest things! I would hate for a repeat, tho. :(

pumpkinniki- ephemera is transitory written and printed matter not intended to be retained or preserved. Examples include: bookmarks, catalogues, greeting cards, letters, pamphlets, postcards, posters, prospectuses, stock certificates, tickets and zines. Some swappers are specifically looking for vintage ephemera. The Swap-bot Blog is a god send, they have definitions for every term used on here. As to your second issue I know it can be frustrating when your received package does not match up to your expectations. We've all gotten a few of those. My finding is that for every one of those kind of packages I've rec'd I've gotten 10 that went over and above the swap requirements so in my scheme of things it more than evens out. Your partners are almost never the same so you get to find out what somebody else considers "filled up". It's up to you whether you join (hope you do) and I'm certainly a "half full" glass kind of girl!

I keep forgetting about the Swap-bot Blog! LOL Thanks, I think I get it.

You have a great point. I suppose, all together they kinda even out. I was/am leaning towards joining, tho. Right now I am watching so I can make sure to gather enough to fill another package. My supply of found objects has run low since I have been crafting faster than the litterbugs can dish out in the dog days of summer. LOL

Hopefully, now that it is the weekend, I can find enough when I go "junkin'." (junkin' is what I call going to garage sales, thrift stores, and charity shops with the sole intention for sorting thru their junk.)

Thanks!

PS: For me, it depends on the owner of said glass: If it is mine it is either completely full or I consider it empty. If it is someone else's glass I never see it as empty. I can find good in every situation...unless it is my situation! LOL I'm so weird! :P

I think you're a lot like the rest of us girl!;)

LOL Thanks!

@Pumpkinniki Found objects are not trash. Though they can be sometimes. I would be upset if I received a box of paper trash from my partner that they picked up off the streets. Found objects in art are objects that are being used for art, though they were not originally intended for that purpose. For example, an umbrella is not made for art but an artist can take that umbrella and create something wonderful. That would be an example of found object art. I just used an umbrella to make a found object doll. Found objects can also be cool pieces of metal, or interesting items that you do find on the ground. I often pick up rusty bottle caps from parking lots. So, if you can find cool interesting shapes on objects, metal parts or pieces, wires, door knobs, hardware, even dolls and doll parts, vintage toys or boxes, and so many other cool items, then you are on the right track. A good question to ask yourself, "Can you use the item in an art piece as something other then what it was originally made for?" If, you answer yes, then it would be considered a found object. I hope that helps. :)

I'm not talking about trash! LOL Tho, I think I can see how you thought that.

I am always finding things like lost bracelet charms, popped necklaces, gears, springs, odd metal things that I don't know what they are but I find them inspiring, a never ending supply of fake flower petals, big confetti in all shapes and sizes, and weird LARPing stuff. I don't bring the paper stuff home. LOL I do geocache and find weird things in the caches, too. But it has been too hot for geocaching lately.

Did that help ease your mind? ;)
