Description:

The purpose of this swap is to make someone's day a little brighter,
without needing to spend a great deal of money--
just the cost of a single postage stamp.

It's really the thought that counts in this one.
I'm hoping that everyone will enjoy this
and I plan to do future single stamp surprise swaps
if I get a positive response!

Anyone with no ratings or at least a 4.95 rating
is welcome to participate--if you do have negative ratings
and would like to contact me for a private swap
to get your ratings up, I'd be happy to swap with you.
I will angel this swap if necessary.

Here are the rules:

You must have a well filled-out profile!

You must read your partner's profile!
Please try to send something related to her/his interests
that will make him/her smile :)

You will send your partner 1 envelope of goodies
that only takes 1 stamp to send
(USPS guidelines are posted below).

Items can be used, new, or handmade, but should be
in like-new condition.
Please send something of a quality that you would like to receive.

In order to receive a 5, your items should meet the criteria
of being related to your partner's profile interests and be
thoughtfully put together (only sending a post-it or a quick "hello" note does
not qualify as being particularly thoughtful).
Please rate anyone a 5 as long as they meet these criteria.
Hearts are of course at your own discretion.

Some ideas for items that will be under the weight limit and machinable for the
USPS single-stamp rate:

ATCs
ATC blanks
stickers
bookmarks
ribbon
fabric scraps
iron-on patches
postal stamps
special mailing labels for your partner
personalized swap cards for your partner
stationery
special papers for scrapbooking/crafting
poems/stories/photos or images you think they'd like
a nice letter

This is a quick turn-around swap in order to help people get good ratings.
Please do not sign up if you can't get your envelope ready to send out
by the send date.

Here are the USPS criteria for a single stamp:

First-Class letter dimensions:

Rectangular (NOT SQUARE)
At least 3-1/2 inches high X 5 inches long X .007 inch thick
No more than 6-1/8 inches high X 11-1/2 inches long X 1/4 inch thick
Maximum weight is 1 ounce for a 44 cent stamp.
Letters that are considered nonmachinable are subject to a surcharge.
Length is the dimension parallel to the address.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Have fun swapping!

You list the "maximum weight is 3.5 ounces), but anything over an ounce requires additional postage (beyond the 44c). There is a single stamp available for the up-to-2-oz (61c). Not sure after that.

Would we be rated down if we happened to go over the one stamp limit?

evieroz 07/12/2010 #

My scale says up to 1.0 in U.S. is 44c and from 1.1 to 2.0 is 61c.

Thank you camelsamba and evieroz-- I originally posted the USPS requirements for first class letters, and didn't realize that it was extra postage up to 3.5 oz.. After checking with the USPS, the total weight can be up to 1 oz. for a single first-class 44 cent stamp. You can use a kitchen/dietary scale to weigh your envelope if you don't have a postal scale (that's what I do). I just sent out 5 full sticker sheets for one stamp, and 3 atcs with a card for a single stamp, so you should be able to send something nice and thoughtful for under that price. I'd hate to see someone rated down because their envelope ends up being 1.2 oz. or something, but the basic idea is that everyone can send something extra-special for the basic low price of sending a letter or greeting card. It's kind of a challenge for creativity-- quality over quantity ;) If anyone thinks the 44 cent stamp limit is going to be a problem, please feel free to contact me. Thanks!

Sounds perfect just the way it is!

I can't wait to look around my house, and do a little shopping for things to send. This sounds really cute, and simple.

Thank you both! I'm very excited-- I'll assign partners right away after tomorrow (15th) at midnight so everyone can get started on their ideas! :D I've looked at all of your profiles and we've got a great group of people!

I have now sent out messages to those of you who haven't marked that you sent out your envelopes, as the send date is past. I know some of you may have just forgotten to mark yours as sent, while some may not have had a chance to send anything out. Please let me know either way, so I can angel swaps as needed. Thanks so much, and have a wonderful week! Phillaine
