Description:

Last year I participated in a Naked Mail swap hosted by Susi. I have been hoping for another one like this, and haven't seen it in a long time, so I decided to host my own!

Naked Mail is when you send something through the Postal System without an envelope or box. The best items for this swap often come from the dollar store or the dollar bins at many stores, as long as it is durable enough to make it through the mail. A good price range is $1-$2, as postage will cost you a few dollars as well. Postal regulations restrict anything glass, liquid, perishable, or potentially hazardous, but that still leaves a lot of options for us out there.

Last year I send out a large plastic crayon bank that I found at the dollar store. I received a bright orange, scented lint roller. It gave me a great laugh opening up my mailbox to find that hiding in there!

For the nitty gritty... Newbies welcome with a WELL filled out profile... I will be checking... Veteran swappers with a 3.7 profile rating and no unexplained 1's or 3's. If you have received a bad rating recently just PM me and we can talk about it. I know that bad ratings sometimes happen to good people. Please only sign up if you will send our your swap! This might be a difficult swap to Angel.

Most of all, be creative and HAVE FUN! It really is a blast hunting for your 'perfect item' to mail to your partner. Please let me know if you have any questions!!

haha, what a funny idea!!! so what are the regulations exactly?? the post office is ok with us putting postage and labels on the actual item itself??

alliefierce 05/24/2010 #

@sduckson It is definitely allowed, though I've heard of some postal workers saying they won't accept it. If that happens I would just go to another post office. When I sent mine out last year I just made sure to tape the labels on really well. Another thing to think about is the size of the item, meaning if an item is TOO small, it might get lost in the system. I know they wont accept glass, liquids, perishable items, or hazardous items like knives and aerosol cans.

Should folks photograph their object with postage as proof of sending (just in case a piece doesn't make the journey)...?

@fieldstudio31 That sounds like a great idea. We could also add them to the Swap-bot feed on flickr and see what other cool items people sent out!

I joined one once and received the funniest thing. My swap partner sent me a huge bra. Her return address was written on one cup and mine with the postage on the other cup. The mailman brought it up to the door and was curious if there was a story behind it. Lmao. We just said it was a joke. If anybody is brave enough here to try it, you'll get lots of laughs. :)
