Description:

This is PART ONE of what will be TWO swaps! If you sign up for the first, please make sure to sign up for the second one, too! I will only allow those that have participated in the first swap to join the second swap. I am keeping this in-group to keep things simple, but if you know someone who wants to join in this one, they are more than welcome to join this group.

The idea for this swap came from seeing several "crafty challenge" type things going on in some of the communities I belong to - basically, everyone gets a set of surprise crafty supplies and has to come up with something using most or all of the items. The most popular of these that I've seen is the Christy Nelson Craft Challenge, where everyone purchases the same package of items that she assembles monthly and then posts pictures of their items to be voted on in a contest.

We'll be doing things a bit differently, however. For the first part of the swap, you'll be assembling the package of secret goodies for your partner to use in their series of 3 ATC's. It's a bit of a scavenger hunt - see below for the list. For the second swap, you will use the supplies you have received to create a series of three (3) ATC's to send on to a new partner. You may also post a picture of your ATC's before you mail them to the group's Flickr group and be entered to win a (as yet undecided) prize. I will post details on the contest after the second swap has started (after the signup date).

So, here we are - what you need to assemble for the first swap. Everything should be able to fit inside a standard business size envelope (about 4in by 9in) - remember, these will be used in ATC's, so think small!

Pick 10 of the following items and also include a note to your partner about the items you chose:

  • something you would find in your kitchen
  • a piece of the envelope from a previous swap (or a recent package you received if this is your first!)
  • a scrap of red paper (at least 2in by 3in)
  • a clipping from your local paper
  • an advertisement (can be mail, magazine ad, flyer, etc.)
  • a used grocery or shopping list
  • a scrap of green paper (at least 2in by 3in)
  • a candy wrapper
  • a price tag from something (clothing tags work well for this)
  • a postcard (from anywhere, used or not)
  • some element from a broken piece of jewelry (a bead, a bit of chain, clasp, pendant, etc.)
  • a page from the phone book that you never look at
  • a scrap of fabric (at least 2in by 3in)
  • a to-do list or reminder that you used recently
  • part of a letter or note that you received in the mail
  • a scrap of blue paper (at least 2in by 3in)
  • two stickers (any kind, any size)
  • a length of ribbon or yarn (at least 6in)
  • five one inch squares of crafty-type paper (please, no memo paper or copy paper)
  • a doodle you drew (any size, any paper)
  • a small embellishment element (brad, eyelet, clip, piece of chipboard, etc.)
  • two letters at least one inch high (can be stickers, clipped from a paper, cut from card stock - just has to be at least an inch high)
  • one paper scrap - any color (at least 2in by 3in)

There - that seems like enough to choose from. OK, so pick 10, put them in a business size envelope, add a note telling your partner what you picked, and send it. Then go join the second swap.

This swap is open to everyone in the group, but please be mindful of your partner and don't flake. If I have problems with you during this swap, I will ban you from my future swaps. Keep in mind - this swap is required for the second swap! If you have not received your package by the time the signup closes on the second swap, please message me and I will get a package together for you.

Also, please don't be a jerk. Don't make this intentionally hard for your partner, choosing things that are in awful condition or pieces that are too small to use. I have specified minimum sizes on some items to discourage this.

Please message me or leave a comment if you have any questions.
