You may post your sexual orientation etc down here if you want items specific to it, but that's not mandatory. Swappers must have at least 4.5 to join and no no sends. I applaud this swap. AM

cat 07/23/2007 #

How come you have not joined? ^_^

user8565 07/23/2007 #

I don't qualify.

Iowascrapemouse 07/23/2007 #

Do we have to have this lifestyle to join? I was thinking of joining and giving my stuff I receive to my lesbian daughter......

ozrob 07/23/2007 #

can you give an example of "queer-related items" please

isisanyanka 07/24/2007 #

Can some of these be handmade items ? Oh I am pansexual. And am a bit of a genderqueer person as well.(though I am not sure on wich level) And not that afraid to say it really.

Thank you for hosting this swap I was actually waiting for a swap like this to be made.

Kessie 07/24/2007 #

Hi, I also applaud this swap, but might not qualify either... I'm actually straight but in a sort of unsexual way. However my social life is very gay-orientated and I'd love to swap stuff like Rainbow/Pride themed things from other cities (I live in Brighton - less than two weeks until our Pride festival which is probably the best one in Europe!) or gay magazines from other countries... All my friends are gay/lesbian/trans, (and I was awarded Heroine of the Year at Brighton Pride 2005 because of my volunteer work!)

So what I wondered, is the swap only open to LBGT people, or could you say it's open to anyone who wants to swap this sort of stuff, for whatever reason, e.g. on behalf of friends & family?

I think this is a question not just for the host but also for the other swappers - how would they feel about swapping with straight people???

cat 07/24/2007 #

Hmmm... I'd like to see a better turnout for this swap, so I wouldn't mind opening it up a bit. But I agree w/ you Kessie-- the opinions of other swappers are important, so if anyone would like to share theirs that would be great.

cat 07/24/2007 #

Handmade items are welcome

cat 07/24/2007 #

Queer-related items can be anything related to being queer. Books, movies, pride stickers, anything...

lilianambrose 07/24/2007 #

I want to join. I am bisexual. . .but if straight but not narrow folks can't join, I won't either, because they are just as important.

Suzanne 07/24/2007 #

I guess my question is what we'd send to straight swappers. Gay pride stuff? Letters of support? Queer paraphernalia?

I don't know if I get the point of opening it up to straight swappers because every relationship or lifestyle swap is biased towards them. Do we need to bias this one?

isisanyanka 07/25/2007 #

I don't mind straight swappers joining, everyone has at least one queer person around them that can benefit from this swap. As long as no homophobes join why not... but that's just me really.

I do think a glbt person would have a better idea of what someone might like to receive though.

Kessie 07/26/2007 #

Ok, well I've signed up for this swap but if the consensus is not to allow straight people then you can drop me, and I promise not to sulk! :-)

I don't think the swap needs to be 'biased' towards straight people - I guess what I was saying was that although I'm not Lesbian, I do know lots about the gay scene in England, and have access to lots of shops specialising in gay culture, (and Gay couples also feature a lot in the artwork I do). Anything I receive would be either something I would treasure forever, or something that I could give to one of my close friends... But if you would like to keep this swap exclusive, then I will respect that.

In any case I would suggest that people do try and specify a little about what they would like/not like to receive. This is quite a wide category!

cat 07/26/2007 #

Kessie - no plans to drop you :)

Iowascrapemouse 07/26/2007 #

I joined, I'm the one with the Lesbian daughter. Like I said, I would give the stuff I received to her...... Queer related items to me would be colored rainbow items, bumper stickers, jewelry, key rings, equality = items. You can go on the internet and look up Lesbian shopping, don't go there if you are a prude. I had a bumper sticker that said, I'm Straight, not Narrow I wish I still had it, the car is long gone now....

Kessie 07/27/2007 #

I love the 'Straight but not Narrow' slogan! I'd never heard it before. Other possible ideas might include gay novels, magazines, t-shirts/socks/underwear with slogans... Since Mickey brought up the subject of prudishness, is there anything that people would specifically NOT want to receive? I can think of other (more sexual) possibilities but don't want to offend anyone...

In the UK we now have 'civil partnerships' so I've got a few gay weddings to go to in the next year,- I wouldn't mind receiving something (e.g. a handmade greeting card?) which would be suitable to give to a gay or lesbian couple celebrating their partnership. I'd also like souvenirs specific to Pride celebrations in other cities, or 'useful' items like a keyring or a mug with a gay-friendly design.

However my partner should feel free to send whatever they like - I'm sure we'll love it whatever it is! :-)

SummerLion 07/28/2007 #

I'm bi and would be happy with just about anything. ;)

Iowascrapemouse 07/31/2007 #

I went to Spencer Gifts today and bought 3 different things for under $15.oo....I ready for my name and address to send them to ......lol

Phoenyx 08/10/2007 #

I used to have a set of rainbow rings.. and now I live in a town where I cannot find them...

Oh well..

Long live the internet!

kkdoow 08/22/2007 #

OK... I think the simple fact that I searched for "GLBT" in the swaps means I should TOTALLY be able to participate even though I'm a girl who likes boys... all my gay & lesbian friends say I'm the gayest person they know! :)

I am on my way to the Castro in San Francisco next weekend... so I'm ready to do some shopping! If, however, you decide to exclude us supporters, I'll pack up my tiara and go home. LOL.. kidding... I won't sulk either... well, not much anyway.

P.S. We should really have a PFLAG letter swap or something....

RogueArtist 08/27/2007 #

I'm definitely in!

bisexual and polyamorous

we have some great stores here for shopping :-)

I have no problem with straight folks showing support for the glbt community. If they'd like to send and receive those type of items - That'd be GREAT! One of the main themes in the GLBT community is acceptance. They can't accept us as who we are if we exclude them from our communities any more than we can accept them when they exclude us from theirs. make sense?

motes 08/28/2007 #

I am SO GLAD I found this swap & had to sign up, even at the 11th hour!! Kudos for having a queer presence here! I identify as queer & I'm glad to see that queer-friendly folk are included here too. I'm cool with hand-made things, and I live near Northampton (Yeah!) in queer-friendly Massachusetts!

daffyd1963 08/28/2007 #

I also have a Lesibian daughter and whatever I get will go to her. In Fact she is going to help me find items for my partner should be a fun swap thanks for hosting it

girlunderglass 08/28/2007 #

Mm, I have a lovely girlfriend of over a year, but I definitely find both sexes attractive ;)

And I gotta say that I think it is awesome and adorable, carolyn and Mickey Betz, that you are swapping for your daughters <3 I can only wish for that kind of acceptance from my Momma :(

kkdoow 08/29/2007 #

So I'm off to San Francisco tomorrow night. REEEEEEEALLY hoping I know who my partner is by the time I leave. hint hint :)
