Description:

For this swap, hit your local discount store for some postcard sized canvases. You can usually get them in a pack of 3 for a couple of dollars. If you can't find them, cut some nice thick card to use. Make sure it's a good solid sort of cardboard because we're not going to be at ALL nice to it. Nope.

You're going to have 2 partners, just because. Now. Take your canvases and paint something on them.

"Oh noes I can't paint very well!"

That's okay, neither can I. Paint badly, paint well, paint abstract, use collage, colour in with crayons - use your happy medium. Let your work dry.

Here comes step two - leave your art outside. Hang them in a tree, dangle them out your window, leave them on the roof, tape them to the side of your car (okay maybe not that last one). Let the sun, wind and rain play around with your creation.

At the end of a week, bring your art in, let it dry if it needs to, then write the addresses on the back of the actual art itself and mail them naked to your partners.

Why? Pfft, why NOT?

Requirements for the art bit

  • Your art skills do not need to be amazing. This is open to all levels of artishness.
  • You can use acrylic paint, coloured pencils, collage, crayons or whatever you want to use. Do what's most comfortable for you.
  • Art should not include nudity, just because some people get all sad in the face about that.
  • Other than that, do whatever floats your particular boat.
  • SENDERS CHOICE therefore you can start right now.

Requirements to join

  • NO no sends in the past 3 months that can't be explained. I will PM you if I have a concern.
  • At least 2 mailed type three swaps (not email or flat mail). I personally count ATCs as a type three, so if you have "flat mail" for ATCs, don't worry, hop on board.
  • Due to the time involved in this swap, I am not opening it to newbies HOWEVER if it goes well I'll run it again in a few months, so keep an eye out if you're busting to join in.

I can angel this swap, HOWEVER if you do flake you will be banned from all my swaps forever more, which would suck for you because I tend to run some pretty awesome swaps even if I do say it myself (and I do).

What on earth made you think of this idea?

LOL @ "Pfft, why NOT?"

Can't wait until this is offered again. It sounds just like some of my altered art journal pages. Too bad I'm a newbie and will be away. When is newbieness over?

Goldilocks, you're fine to join, all requirements met :)

Ellie, the original idea was buried art, till my boy pointed out that dirt might worry customs.

If the card gets all curled up after drying/weathering, is it ok to glue it onto a new/nonweathered piece of backing in order to send it flat? I could see it getting caught in the mail sorting machines if they are too wrinkly/curled(?)

Frogglin 04/ 7/2010 #

Yes that's fine :)

WOW! this is amazing! and a very entertaining description! Wish my imagination was as fertile!!! :>) Got to sign up for this one. My box of acrylics are shouting at me!

This sounds wonderful!!

Mine are clipped outside and weathering!

BetsyPreston 05/18/2010 #

Well, my cards didn't get very weathered with their time outside. They're in the mail. One of them has been sent back twice. Silly problems, but at least THAT card is getting some good weathering. The post office has been beating on the card and it's starting to look a little rough.

mine are sent as well...funny looks and all..(really you want to sent a canvas painting just like this?? and to where?? hmmmm) crossing fingers that they make the journey was great fun now lets see if mission gets accomplished :)

What rating do you give for a card that comes with $1.12 due???? That "forever stamp: doesn't cover this kind of postage.
