Description:

Hello everyone, I am still new here, but I had an idea for an ATC swap and wanted to try it... It is cheating for me as most of my cards are made from recycled metals, but I would love to see what other people can make. In this swap you are to make 1 ATC for 1 partner. No theme, the only rule is that the entire card should be made from recycled materials. I guess paint or ink do not count, but the card back and any embellishments should be recycled or repurposed. Cardboard, magazines, old books, scavenged trinkets, beads from that broken necklace... anything recycled goes. Open to everyone as I will happily angel this swap.

Just to add some interest, as you figure out what your card will be, leave a comment here with the materials you have used to make your card. Since there is no theme, the turn around will be alittle short, so everyone can start working on them now!

If I have left anything out or have started this in error, someone please let me know... -Jerry

The recycled materials I will use: Copper from a flattened coffee serving set Brass from a flattened planter

I'll find something to reuse for rivets

Be creative and have fun!

I was planning to host a swap like this. I was going to also ask for things not necessarily used for the purpose intended. Like dental floss as ribbon:)

iggygirl 03/30/2010 #

what a wonderful idea for a swap, I'll watch for now then perhaps join after I finish some of the swaps on my list. I'm currently at my max.

jringling 04/ 5/2010 #

I think I figured out the card I am going to make for this swap... It will be made from the recycled copper I have and steel cut from the outer case of a computer tower. It will also have a recycling theme... I glad to see so many people participating in my first swap idea!

craftycol 04/ 6/2010 #

jringling 04/ 6/2010 #

I do hope this is what you ment. Smiles Col

SamBuck 04/15/2010 #

I used some red ribbon off of an old Easter decoration, a page from a dictionary that was given to me by another swapper, some paper from index cards I took out of the recycling bin and I have some string I might try to incorporate as well...Can't wait!! :)

arcticmermaid 04/17/2010 #

I'm experimenting w/using the folded page perfume sample in fashion magazines. I'm using Modge Podge for a collage effect, so the challenge is hoping that the sample will still open and smell like perfume.

angiecamp 04/18/2010 #

Like SamBuck I used Easter candy wrappers and other bits and bobs

yomousey 04/18/2010 #

ROTFL I was all sent to send mine out and realized the partners weren't assigned yet, duh! Think I'll make a second one with gum wrappers that I had wanted to use. We got a new printer at work and I used the print out and wove it onto the ATC. I also used a "finishing strip" I work for a dentist and I noticed that the strips he uses to polish fillings look like ribbon, they come in different colors. I'll usually cut off a strip for him to use and if he doesn't use it it gets thrown out, so... LOL! Let me assure my partner it is clean:) My boss is terrible about recycling, I have a fit whenever he throws the catalogs and magazine into the garbage. I am forever trying to grab them before he does it. Once they're in the garbage I wouldn't touch them, may be contaminated.

yomousey 04/18/2010 #

Forgot to add I added as embellishment the metal closure from an envie from work. err, how many can tell I was making ATC's when I was supposed to be working? LOL! It's ok my boss was on vacation and I was minding the shop:)

K8ty 04/18/2010 #

My ATC is made from a carton of coke, the cardboard... and pop tabs, and some beads that fell off a necklace I had. Very cool indeed.

KatarinaNavane 04/19/2010 #

Well done Jerry, your very first hosting swap and you've made it to the top 10! I know you say you can happily angel but you might want to make sure no really obvious flakers have gotten in so you don't have to angel TOO many. Best of luck!

Barbi 04/19/2010 #

Very fitting to do this during Earth Week, and congrats on getting into the Top Swaps!

jringling 04/19/2010 #

KatarinaNavane, I didn't even know there was a top ten! And no worries on the angel-ing, I have a stock of computer tower cases... enough recycled metal to cover everyone if need be...

Blurg 04/19/2010 #

I am using plastic from a berry container, an old children's puzzle book, and a college magazine. Perhaps I'll find some old wires to add some texture...

girlwithoutaname 04/19/2010 #

A food box is my recycled material.if my partner guesses the food box I will send an extra in the mail ;) Repetition and rhythm are the main design elements I used to make a simple and cohesive design. The card is a tiny sample of a piece I am actually working on that is three foot by five foot. it is a mixed media piece for a show this fall.Lots of little pieces!

valdes53 04/19/2010 #

do old watches count? in combination with other materials of course

jringling 04/20/2010 #

valdes53, old watches count!

coolmom45 04/20/2010 #

I just bought coffee at our local Caribou Coffee shop last night and it came with an amazing cup covered with cool sayings! I'll use that with a cut-up cereal box as the base (something I always use!). Fun!

Tillie 04/20/2010 #

I work in a restaurant, so I'll probably be using cardboard from food packaging, and some crayons that kids abandoned. Can you believe they just throw that stuff away?

Arabella 04/20/2010 #

I found some old rusted washers on my walk this morning-I'll disinfect them, add them to one of the envelopes from another swap, use a few scraps of leftover paper, cutout words from a newspaper, and anything else I can recycle!

Tynkerbelle 04/20/2010 #

I will be using a old piece of a computer motherboard,(LBF is a computer tech and i get all the leftover goodies) and some watch pieces and some repurposed beads

druideye 04/20/2010 #

Mine is made from the cardboard from the drinks I send in my sons school lunches, couple old stamps I've collected from envelopes, magazine clippings, the saying from a chinese fortune cookie, can tabs I got straight out of the recycle bin and a bit of a page of an old book I salvaged at a thrift store today. Background was made from an old brochure with a map on it - and a few odd pieces of other stuff I've found.

MamaBear 04/21/2010 #

I just finished mine. Only my 4th ATC so far, so it was challenging and took me HOURS! I used a thick piece of cardboard from the packaging of an air mattress, some food packaging (both cardboard and plasticky soy milk cartons), plarn, a paper bead, and an old staple. Also used an eyelet... guess that one is cheating :-p

jringling 04/21/2010 #

Mamabear... the eyelet isn't cheating... we'll call it a fastener. Sometimes you cannot use recycled fasteners, imagine trying to reuse glue!

SamitySam 04/21/2010 #

Hi all, I used an old belt buckle, page from an aged book, newspaper clippings, and a Christmas card....and it turned out FABULOUS!...:)

jringling 04/21/2010 #

SamitySam: A belt buckle? Did you take a picture? If so, where do you post them... I'd like to see an ATC made with a belt buckle!

thegreengriffin 04/22/2010 #

i'm using a base cut from a used bubble envelope and literally dug through my trash can (luckily I have separate ones for crafts and kitchen!) and got out various scraps of paper and selvedge edges from fabric. I'm still working on the design so I'll leave an update if I end up using different things than the pile of 'trash' i'm working from now. I just thought I would post as I meditate on it. But this is so much fun!

thegreengriffin 04/22/2010 #

I went crazy and made two, the other one has a base of scraps of paper and uses a random extra sticky thing from a sheet of stamps and dried orange peel

Tynkerbelle 04/23/2010 #

update:motherboard idea ubberfail..movin on to other recycle items...off i go

mindy 04/29/2010 #

making it from a cookie lid and other assorted upcycled bits and pieces.

Claylady 04/29/2010 #

I cut up an old Shania Twain CD. I used some scrapbook paper scraps for the back.I filled the hole with some old micro beads that I found in the basement and remelted some UTEE scraps I'd been saving for just such an occasion to cover the edges.

Bramblebelle 04/30/2010 #

Lemme see......tea boxes.....Subway ad....copper wire from an old engine, receipt, sugar package paper, bread flour wrapper, candy foil, and aluminum from husband's work.
