Description:

For the swapper who is low on cash or just has a lot of nice swappable items in their possession already.

The point of this swap is to not spend any money whatsoever (except on postage, of course!). You may only send things that you already have in your possession.

Some example of things are: -stationery (paper, envelopes, notecards) -embroidery floss -buttons -pieces of fabric -tea bags -bookmarks -stickers -origami paper -temporary tattoos -a bag of assorted beads -a mix CD

Of course, you are not limited to this list of things. Use your good judgment in finding items to send.

Also, feel free to send handmade items - handmade notecards, knitted/crocheted items, jewelry, etc.

You must send at least 5 items, but try to send more if you can! The trick is to see how nice of a swap package you can make without spending any money.

Please do not send used items, scraps of things, or trash in general.

This swap is international and only open to users with a rating of 4.5 or higher.

Any sign-ups by those with no ratings and no previously acquired permission will automatically be banned.

ATTENTION!
A few unrated swappers who requested permission were permitted to join this swap so if you have one as your partner, don't be confused!

To my rated swappers - if you are supposed to receive a package from an unrated swapper and you do not receive it within two weeks of the final swap date and have not been able to get in touch with them, please let me know.

This sounds awesome, the only thing is, I hope we get partners from the country we live in-shipping from the US to Singapore can cost $15 easy, no matter the weight.

alicepalace 07/15/2007 #

Star Gazer Crys, partners in swaps are assigned automatically - there isn't a way of making sure you get a partner who's from the same country as you. If you don't want to risk getting international partners, it's probably easier to stick to US-only swaps...

StarGazerCrys 07/15/2007 #

Alice-I'm sorry, I thought the mods had control over which partners people received. Don't hate, I'm still a newb. :)

Thanks, Crystal

SarahElaine 07/15/2007 #

There are a few ways to keep international shipping from being too expensive. If you send your international packages long before the swap deadline, you can ask your postmaster to ship the cheapest way possible and it should still arrive to your partner on time and save you a bit of money. Also, you have to be somewhat tactful regarding what you send so as to make sure your package isn't too heavy. You can still make lovely swap packages of only lightweight items.

StarGazerCrys 07/15/2007 #

Thanks for the tips Sarah. I try to send out packages ASAP. I'll certainly keep lightweight items that my partner will still enjoy in mind. :)

alicepalace 07/17/2007 #

oops, sorry i didn't mean it to come across mean! :( xx

Phoenyx 07/27/2007 #

There is no "cheap"at efor US postage to international any longer.

EVERYTHING is airmail only..

This I know, I just sent fifteen packages to overseas.. and knocked myself out with expenses..!!!

OUCH!!!

Phoenyx 07/27/2007 #

"cheap" rate (I hate typos!)

SarahElaine 07/27/2007 #

Yiikes. When did they change it? I don't doubt it too much though. The prices seemed a little bit higher on some packages I sent overseas recently. It wasn't that big of a deal for the light packages, but it was definitely ouchie on a really heavy package I sent.

I think anyone in the U.S. who has to ship internationally for this swap should be alright as long as they're tactful when putting together their swap packages. I think the nature of this swap would have most people sending rather lightweight items anyway so I doubt anyone will feel the heat of international shipping too much.

aeylecmet 07/29/2007 #

Boy do I have some "stuff" to share! I am constantly getting little knick-knack things that I personally can't ever use, but know others can. Been looking for a chance to "regift" a few things. And the cost to get rid of it is probably worth it in the long run.

MarmaladeGeisha 07/29/2007 #

Well, there are lots of lightweighed things you can send in a packet... just use your imagination and have a look around your home! ;-)

I'm in of course, it sounds good fun! :-)

danit 07/29/2007 #

as an international swapper, all my swaps are international. that is way I don't join swaps with more then one partner. I know sending international package can be expensive, but remember how much fun it is to receive something from a different country.

SarahElaine 07/30/2007 #

I agree with you, Danit. That's why I always make a point to make my swaps international. I like the prospect of getting something especially unique that I couldn't find here and being able to send things that might be interesting for someone who doesn't live here as well. Sometimes I wish it were possible to do swaps where it's guaranteed you'll get an international partner. Except maybe a hardcover book swap. That might be a little too much xD

Also, wow! This swap made the top 10! I extended the dates slightly so more people would have a chance to join. Also, I'm going on a little four day trip soon and want to be available if anyone needs any help with anything before the swap ends.

sweetjewels1985 07/30/2007 #

count me in i have a lot of neat things to send cost of shipping not to bad

Agnetha 08/ 1/2007 #

May I ask the reason is why you can't send teabags to another country?? curious

SarahElaine 08/ 1/2007 #

Apparently customs isn't okay with tea being sent to some countries. I doubt it's bad to send tea everywhere, but I'm not sure what countries don't allow it and which ones do so I figured it was safest to just make a notice to not send tea internationally.

abbehope 08/ 2/2007 #

With the teabag-swaps going on I don't think there's much of a problem sending teabags internationally... The main problem-country seems to be Australia, where you have to have the contens of the tea listed ON the teabag for it to be ok. I know there's no problem sending tea to Norway (where I'm located), and I've not had problems sending tea to the US or any European countries.

Agnetha 08/ 2/2007 #

Thanks for clearing it up for me :) I was a bit confused why it wans't allowed :)

Snaxy 08/ 2/2007 #

whoops! sorry I didn't see that newbies weren't allowed my bad

This whole box was a nightmare! My husband went through it and threw most of it out...as... he didn't even want it in our house! Disappointed in Virginia, Carolyn AKA: bayougrl

mrsD 08/19/2007 #

my swap went out to Jydingo on friday, aug 17 :)

Amberly 08/20/2007 #

Daisy your package is going out today.

jagoda 08/21/2007 #

Dear localoutsider

your package was sent yesterday (21.8.), but since it is traveling from Slovenia it might take a while to get to you.

user9986 08/21/2007 #

Bayougrl,

I believe that I was your partner. I wish you had contacted me directly rather than post your frustration here. I did read your profile and didn't see anything that specified things that you wouldn't want. I also don't recall your profile saying that you were a Christian who would be offended by Wiccan-themed things. I realized that my partner might not be into some stuff (like that Tarot deck) but I thought the cards might be cool to cut up and use for ATCs, collage, etc. if not for their "traditional" usage. As far as the incense goes, I just thought that people usually like yummy-smelling things. I also included tons of non-witchy things (fabric, etc) to provide a nice blend. I didn't mean any offense at all.

However, I wish that you had contaced me PRIVATELY to 1) let me know that you recieved your box and 2) to express your displeasure.

All I can do at this point is to apologize for any stress I've caused and remind you that whether you liked the contents of my box or not, I still met the swap requirements and would expect no less than a 5 rating.

And to think....I tried really hard for "heart" level coolness.

Rachel S. (Starlite_Seeker)

user9986 08/21/2007 #

PS-

I just re-read your profile to confirm that yes, I was your partner. I'm assuming that the comment about nothing Witchcraft related is a new addition in response to my package, because it was not there before I sent it. Upon re-reading, there was nothing (previously) to indicate that you wouldn't like my package. I'm very sorry (again) that you were disappointed.

Rachel S.

keymistress 08/22/2007 #

starlite_seeker: don't feel too bad, i'm sure you didn't mean it. i'd have loved your parcel, even though i'm not christian or wiccan. i just think tarot cards are pretty and fun! :)

Ilovekawaii 08/22/2007 #

Starlite_Seeker.. I think you are right... I don't know why people directly spit out mean things on the website before contacting their partners...

user9986 08/22/2007 #

Thanks for the supportive messages. :-)

I'm just waiting for the rating....honestly, I'd rather not be rated at all than given a bad one for a well-intentioned package I was proud of.

Rachel

bayougrl999 08/23/2007 #

Starlite_seeker,

I finally had the time to get back online and check the swap-bot page.

I am appologizing about the complaints on the swap box that you sent to me.

I must have been having a really bad day, again...I'm really sorry about Exploding on you, and your efforts to give a piece of your heart to me with this pkg.

Please accept my appology. Bayougrl

kusine 08/23/2007 #

MadMadam, your parcel went out today.

Baccarita 08/23/2007 #

I sent today my items for my partner... :) I tried my best at this! hugs

Avogana 08/24/2007 #

Compulsive Creations, I mailed your box out to you today. Let me know when it arrives.

ladydy5 08/24/2007 #

Here's my opinion. whether you want it or not. I too am a Christian and Tarot cards are not threatening because I know truth. I just love the colorful, artist drawings on them and would love it if some one sent me one or two to use on the face of my atc cards. I see things in an artist way and only put down those ideas that threaten ,me or my family and art endeavors don't do that. I do not like Gothic unless it is architecture or design, so there I voiced my opinion. Some one got their feelings hurt and this is not what this is about.

happyness 08/25/2007 #

My package went off to Love aka Curator in USA this morning. I'm really crossing my fingers that she likes it :)

I'll describe what I sent since I know she already got it and no pics were posted. It was a shoe box size box filled with ceramic angels, stained glass suncatchers, angel prints, a sachet, a teabag, and a bunch of other stuff... I can't remember all I put in there. As for what I received, I'd post pics, but I haven't received anything.
