Description:

I found this set of photos on Flickr of polymer clay ATCs and would like to try them. I was hoping to find some other clay crafters to swap with. I would consider myself a beginner - so feel free to try it for the first time, too! If this works out, I would consider hosting some more clay swaps. If anyone has some thoughts or suggestions, I would welcome them!

Make 1 clay ATC for 1 partner. Be sure to pack them carefully so they are safe in the mail. Standard size 2.5 x 3.5.

This is senders choice - so you can get started right away on your ATC.

In a swap like this, I made my first polymer clay things. sniffs in nostalgy Sadly those dates do not really agree with me. maybe next time.

This is on my watchlist. Just wanted to thank you. I've never seen these before and they are SO cool! Can't wait to try my hand at them.

very cool.... I've not ever done anything with polymer clay and am definitely intrigued... watching for now... ...scatter joy...

i don't under stand how this works.. (clay N00B). Do you bake the clay or does it dry that way and becomes less fragile?

jj9jj 02/15/2010 #

Although I believe there are air-dry clays out there, generally polymer clay (Sculpy, FIMO to name a couple of brands) is baked at a low temp in the oven. The squares of clay have baking directions on them.

That flickr site is amazing! Thanks for shareing... I am a little too scared to swap something this complicated that I have never tried, so... I think I will watch for now and give it a try before signing up! :)

bethsimmons22 - I have never done one of these either. You gotta start somewhere!

dose the whole card have to be clay or just some parts of it?

jj9jj 02/22/2010 #

Having never hosted a clay ATC swap before - I guess I will leave that up to you. I plan on making the whole thing out of clay but if you want to make some part of it out of clay and combine it with a different medium (cardboard back, etc.), I don't think that would be a problem. Just be sure to include something you MADE out of clay.

If those of you participating disagree and would be upset with an ATC not made completely of clay - please let me know and I will take back what I just wrote!

I'm just new at clay making and i want to join but only if it is partly clay ill be more comfortable with that for my first time, :)

jj9jj 02/22/2010 #

Go ahead and join! I just want to be sure everybody makes some part of the ATC out of clay. It is newbie friendly - so I don't think anyone is expecting ATCs ready for a museum.

I cannot access flicker. So I am going to use my imagination. Okay.

jj9jj 02/23/2010 #

If you just do a search for clay ATC you should be able to get some ideas - but your imagination will probably be just as good!

I was planning on trying to make these anyway, so I'm thrilled to see a swap for them.

You asked for suggestions, I would think that as a bonus senders could include thin polymer clay shapes for the recipient's use on future ATCs. Maybe this is what would warrant the giving of hearts for this swap? Thoughts?

I like that idea!
