I was inspired by the afghan swaps I saw, but I cannot afford to send a lot of squares out of the country so I thought I'd start a North American swap (USA and Canada only). Each swapper will make 6" granny squares.

There will be five swaps:

Swap 1 August - Make 8 squares
Swap 2 September - Make 8 squares
Swap 3 October - Make 8 squares
Swap 4 November - Make 8 squares
Swap 5 December - Make 4 squares (will be quick and easy during holiday season!)

Each person will have 2 partners per swap. Partners will not be the same from swap to swap. It will be random.

He or she will send 4 squares to one person, and 4 squares to another for swaps 1-4.

For swap 5 (the last swap), each swapper will make 4 squares and send 2 squares to one person and 2 squares to someone else.

The squares do not all have to be the same yarn or color, just the same dimension and they must be made of acrylic worsted weight so they lapghan has easy laundry care.

Send out squares in every color of the rainbow!

To join this swap you don't have to join all 5 swaps (check the boards). Newbies welcome. No one with a rating less than 4.5.

This is an involved swap, but with eight 6" squares a month, this should breeze by.

Crochet and knit welcome. Please make squares seaming friendly. A simple crochet border is encouraged (takes 2 minutes, I swear).

I'm considering an optional swap for backing fabric after the swaps. Let me know your opinion.

I am inclined to join this one, as I have already done a 6" square swap, and am in need of more to complete a full lapghan.

My question is, can participants sign up for one at a time, as opposed to committing to all five at the outset? Life can get busy at times, and has a way of throwing the unexpected at you, so there will be months when very committed swappers might not be able to participate. But, since those that are in the swap will not be affected (you still send out 8, and receive 8, no matter how many participate, right?), committing to one versus five is a moot point. Make sense?

And besides, some of us already have some squares; I have eight 6" squares that I have received in a past swap!

Oh yeah. I suppose you're right. It's the first swap I've ever organized. Thanks for pointing that out.

would love to join this swap, it would be my first one, but love to knit and crochet both. this sounds like fun and a lovely change (awesome idea), please send me a Canadian address, I need to expand my horizons.

The assignment of partners is randomly done by the computer.
