Description:

This is R2 of a 12 month swap. I love charm swaps and 9 patch swaps because they are quick and easy. For this swap you will make two quilt block squares for two partners [4 squares total] using the simple 9 patch design or a variation of the simple 9 patch design. Color and design is up to the sender, but you are more than welcome to communicate with your partners if you have a color preference. Please use high quality 100% cotton fabric.

EACH SQUARE MUST MEASURE 12.5” in raw edge to raw edge. If its a little bigger, that’s ok. Newbies are welcome, with at least 10 mail swaps. No unexplained 1’s or 3’s.

Please email with any questions you might have and save the space below for listing your desired colors or make sure to have them listed in your profile. Please use quality cotton fabric. If you smoke, please make every effort to send a block that has not been exposed to smoke. If you can't avoid that, perhaps send a quick note to your partner and ask if it is offensive or launder the block and put a fabric softener sheet into the package to help erase any sign of smoke smell.

Please have a complete profile so that your partner can choose colors that suit your taste, home furnishings, likes and dislikes etc. Thanks and let's have a fabulous swap again!

You must have a well filled out profile to join, I will ban as I see fit. I’m really excited about a great swap.

How many different fabrics should be used in each square? Are both squares you send to a partner the same? Thanks for clarifing....

I would love to have blue and white again!

I really like the 9 patch in the description above. I'd like patches with placement of dark and like in this arrang ment and something different in the middle - not necessarily black and white -- but I'd love that -- but definitely a dark and light, not bright. Thanks. I'll try to send my partners whatever colors they prefer if they post here.

By "...a variation of the simple 9 patch design..." --does that include any parts made with triangles, or are they all just variations in the colored squares?

Okay, I just have to say that the math in this block drives me crazy! (Could be because I'm something of a perfectionist! :-) But to achieve a perfect 12.5" you would need to make your individual squares 4.6666666! I start with 4.75 and my blocks end up being a tad on the big side which I hope is okay. I think bigger is better than smaller because you can always trim but it is hard to add! Is there some magic measurement for the individual squares that I don't know about?

I would love red and white again!

You can send the same or different squares. You can add a triangle if your partner is ok with that. I agree, the math is insane! But I found that 4.5" squares gets the 12.5" total if you use a .25" seam. That makes the square in the center 4" and the side squares 4.25". Added across...4.25 + 4.0 +4.25 = 12.5" TA DA...of course I've got some 12" & 13" squares in my reject basket after all my experimenting! I think I got all the questions answered.

Teal, or turquoise, or aqua and white for me again, please and thank you! If you feel comfortable adding triangles to mine, go for it....I would love the variety! I would also love for your name to be permanently written, or embroidered on the top of my blocks.

Thank you orode for hosting...I'm looking forward to collecting enough for a swap-bot quilt!

fabriholic 12/20/2009 #

I would like red , black and white combo prints...no other colors mixed in,,,if possible pls Thanks Lori

twobluecrows 12/27/2009 #

Ok, thanks for the clarification, I'm in!

I'd love any nice combination of natural colors--except for Orange, Avocado or any other 70s colors! --and good strong, tight-weave cotton quilt fabrics.

My profile has all my color favorites, and for me, triangles making some of the "squares" are fine, as are all squares in the traditional 9-Patch style.

can I have pink-light or dark, light blue, and any shades of mauve.Flowers would be great thanks,. these are the only colours I like and would be upset to get any other colour,.thank you

mega54 12/30/2009 #

I would like to get red and cream and ? It would be nice if prints had flowers, butterflies, and/or cute bugs (No Sculls, Please!). Triangles are okay. Send me something you would be happy to get and I will be happy. Thanks

I would like either blues for the dark corners or reds with a cream or lite color for the other squares. My plan is for it to be a QOV quilt
