What are 'nengajo'? Japanese New Year postcards.

"On January 1 in Japan, postmen deliver stacks of specially postmarked, beautiful postcards with greetings for the new year. They are called 'nengajo' in Japanese and families spend lots of creative energy to make or purchase postcards that reflect their style. Design Pointers & Notes

• Can be store-bought or handmade
• IDEALLY mailed to arrive at recipient on the first (though this cannot be guaranteed outside of Japan)
• あけましておめでとうございます　is "Happy New Year" in Japanese. (akemashite omedetou gozaimasu)
• Red, silver, and gold are traditional colors for nengajo, but anything goes.
• Seasonal elements are pine, bamboo and plum blossoms
• Japanese aesthetic/theme is not necessary as long as it is a "New Year" theme
• 2010 is the year of the TIGER.

All participants will be screened. Enveloped/Naked is up to the recipient (if not stated, sender's choice).

You will send 3 partners 1 postcard each. A total of 3 cards going out and 3 cards received.
